My potentially unpopular take is that when we valorize people speaking out about Gaza as a heroic act, we signal to people who are cowardly that they can't risk doing the same. It isn't heroic to say: this is a genocide. It's just honesty.

If a party asks for your strategic vote, ask if they’re committed to ending strategic voting.

Proportional representation lets you vote for who you want—no fear of wasting your vote.

If they won’t commit, “strategic voting” is just a tactic for total power with 40%.

Mahmoud Khalil's new op-ed from detention—
"Faced with a movement for divestment they couldn't crush, your trustees opted to set fire to the institution they're entrusted with…History will redeem us, while those who were content to wait on the sidelines will be forever remembered for their silence."

Nepo baby Ben Mulroney tweeted something stupid: Yes, he is our PM. However, although I am not a historian of prime ministerial history, I cannot think of a government in modern times led by a Prime Minister who did not hold a seat in the house of commons. I know that some are trying to normalize this, but it is not normal. It would be more palatable to me if the unelected Prime Minister counterbalanced that fact with increased accountability by talking to the media, but he doesn't even do that.

Nepo Baby Benny strikes again with his impeccable idiocy that only rivals another nepo baby RFK Jr.
Imagine the opportunities he got to result in dumbassery

A clear language-based failure Canadian media does again and again: they always ground events related to Gaza as being "since the Hamas-led attacks of October 7."

They mention Oct. 7 every time, but never add the context that Amnesty and the UN have determined there's been a genocide going on!!

The only thing that can stop Trump is a general strike Unions are a bullwork against fascism. That means that Canadians have to build our labour militancy too.

If we look to history, or to global contemporary movements, there is one constant: the only way to stop tyranny is through workers walking off the job.

And yet, the lack of union density in the US has primed it for a fascist take-over.

I've always loved the fact that the word 'sneeze' is the result of a historical accident. The original form, in the Middle Ages, was 'fnese', but someone mistook the 'f' for the long medieval 's' and wrote down 'sn-' instead.

Fneezing sounds much more like a proper, nasal sneeze.

There’s a concerning percentage of people in media who seem to think being a confident, ornery white man in journalism = being extremely smart

But that’s like…almost never accurate!

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come.

‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair.

Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

Word of the day is ‘apanthropy’ (18th century): a dislike of company and the desire to be left alone.
