You might know I worked at Gladstone Pottery Museum for many years so I’d like to pay my respects to Fred Greasley who sadly passed away today. A volunteer since 1971 and one of the gang who saved and effectively rebuilt the place. A lovely man and a wealth of knowledge. RIP Fred mate.

Centenary of ‘North Staffordshire’s Lowry’ to be celebrated thanks to £147K lottery grant - Daily Focus Major celebrations are set to take place in 2025 for the centenary of ‘North Staffordshire Lowry’ Arthur Berry’s birth thanks to a £147,000 grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

#ArthurBerry100 will see a series of celebration events take place throughout Stoke-on-Trent’s #SoT100 centenary year to showcase the artist, playwright and poet’s breadth of work.

*POTTERIES BOTTLE OVEN -what is it?- A complex, towering, bottle-shaped brick structure, up to 70ft (21m) high, once essential in the pottery-making. 4 main types. Each had its own particular purpose, but they all had the bottle-shaped chimney. Details here
