I move that we stop using investment funding rounds as a proxy for any sort of actual value or utility or interestingness of a technology or a business.

That nonsense has dominated coverage and conversation for the last 15+ years.

"Caouissin ... would like to think the language will follow a similar path to Welsh, which has enjoyed a revival over the past half-century and is spoken by 538,000 people"

People keep getting this wrong about Welsh! There has not been a "revival". Let me explain. 1/

A poster styled like an “In This House We Believe” sign, stacked in horizontal bands with stark color contrasts and different fonts. At the top, black text on white reads: “IN THIS HOUSE, WE BELIEVE:”. Below it, a black stripe with red serif text says: “Eris Discordia rules The Material World”. Next, green text on white reads: “She won it from God in a divorce suit during the Beforelife”. A black stripe follows with jagged yellow text: “The French anarchist Pierre Joseph Proudhon was Her attorney at the trial”. Beneath that, blue, slightly uneven text on white declares: “Nobody is Her Prophet”. The final black stripe features bright pink, handwritten-style text: “Eating hotdog buns is a sin”. Overall tone: overtly Discordian, absurdist theology presented with meme-sign sincerity, mixing Order (structured layout) and Disorder (chaotic claims and fonts). Generated with Bluesky AltText, a CustomGPT.

A little armored one / turtle rabbit in the wild

The word armadillo is borrowed from Spanish and simply means “little armored one.” But an even better word for an armadillo, in my opinion, is the Nahuatl ayotochtli. It means “turtle rabbit.”

Here are some examples from my running thread.

Frame: DOGE was a govt efficiency project to save money
Negation: Actually it made things less efficient and cost money
Kirby: DOGE WAS A PROJECT TO BREAK AND PRIVATIZE FEDERAL BUREAUCRACY
Frame: This public service costs too much, it isn’t making money
Negation: It’s actually very efficient and it could make more money
Kirby: THEY ARE ATTACKING THE VERY IDEA OF PUBLIC SERVICES
Frame: Des Moines Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts is here illegally
Negation: actually his paperwork is in order
Kirby: THIS IS A RACIST ATTACK BY FASCISTS because a Black man is leading a school district. The better he’s doing the more they hate him
Frame: ICE is targeting criminals
Negation: No, they’re targeting ordinary people!
Kirby: THEY’RE WHITE SUPREMACISTS DOING ETHNIC CLEANSING which is why they’re saying everybody who isn’t white is a criminal

Yes! We do not have to accept the terms of bad faith arguments.
It's not an ad hominem attack to address the meta text of the argument.

It is upsetting how credulous this is, repeating the marketing of the APA without getting other perspectives. The DSM books are extremely lucrative for APA, and the move to a frequently-updated online version would involve recurring subscriptions, a massive boost to their income.

Where we are at as a society is that we have seen, without illusions, what type of people we hire to enforce our borders.

And we have seen how easily those enforcers were turned on everyone else.

The question now is whether you love "border security" more than your own freedom.

The word ‘outrage’ consists of neither ‘out’ nor ‘rage’.

Instead, it comes from an Old French word for “excess”.

‘Outrage’ used to be pronounced /outridge/, just like ‘garbage’ is /garbidge/, but it was influenced by the unrelated word ‘rage’.

Zoom in on my new graphic to learn all about it:

Asking the proper question is the central action of transformation—in fairy tales, in analysis, and in individuation. The key question causes germination of consciousness. The properly shaped question always emanates from an essential curiosity about what stands behind. Questions are the keys that cause the secret doors of the psyche to swing open. . . . Those who would readily develop consciousness pursue all that stands behind the readily observable: the unseen chirping, the murked window, the lamenting door, the lip of light beneath a sill. They pursue these mysteries until the substance of the matter is laid open to them.

— Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run with the Wolves

Therapy has usurped the once-primary place of poetry. We need therapy when we cannot sing, dance, or make art an integral part of our everyday life. In earlier time it was poetry that was the terpnos logos, the healing speech. The sick called not the physician—known then as those of 'silent tongue'—but the poet, those of 'willing tongue'! The fact that art, song, movement, dance, and poetry have all become 'therapies' is a testament to the reversal that our culture of intellect and power has achieved. What was the source of the very binding together of culture has been so unravelled that it all must now be imported as therapy. So in therapy we are trying to sew back together huge tears in the fabric of the spontaneous life of psyche. And it is in principally these things that psyche now finds its nourishment.

By Russell Lockhart from his book, 'Psyche Speaks: A Jungian Approach to Self and World'.
