1) this is awesome, and

2) wait, is that really a Shakespeare play? --> (Goes down rabbit hole)--> Most of the text is by others, but handwriting and a few stylistic tells suggest these lines are *likely* Shakespeare (though there are also doubters).

My hot take about the “students cannot read whole novels / watch whole films / etc.” is that they can learn to do it. None of us are born with attention spans suited for long media. It is a learned skill and can be developed with practice.

Yep! Guessing it was a few years ahead of you… my parents still go there.

I remember being totally puzzled by worksheets like this. I don’t think I even knew as a kid that the lighter colored bear was supposed to be female.

A lot more of us second gens would be able to read and speak it if Sunday Khalsa schools would invest a little effort in effective language learning pedagogy.

A lot of folks are trying to keep their head down and stay out of trouble... Cancel the exhibition with a portrait of a Black trans woman, erase the word "diversity"...

While it is sad, it is not only that. I personally found it to be deeply engrossing and cathartic. Incredible performances from the child actors and from Jessie Buckley (Agnes Shakespeare).
Also a fresh take on feminist critical fabulation w/Shakespeare.

Seems like a great assignment! Could be esp. fruitful for "the internet" and "cell phone"... & some surprises if they pick "electric vehicle" (1884!)

Might be a little tricky if they choose "Artificial Intelligence," though maybe encountering complexity of that concept could also be instructive.

3. South Asian Americans need to rally behind politicians who support civil rights and secularism, and unify against those who don’t. Anyone who talks like Miller or Vance should get our vote. (In 2024, there was a surprising uptick in Indian support for Trump, even w/an Indian American running!) 5/

2. South Asian Americans could use their economic clout to build lobbying groups and PACs to advance community interests. Indian Americans have been happy to spend money building showy temples. In politics, they’ve been somewhat inclined to stay on the sidelines. It’s time for that to change. 4/

1. South Asian Americans could work together with other minoritized communities to fight anti-Black and anti-Latino racism, all forms of xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and anti-Muslim rhetoric wherever any of these may crop up. We need to learn to see those fights as our fights. 3/
