My new colleague overcame a lot to make it to academia. Also, he is doing cool stuff in the classroom.

lol, hadnβt heard about this!
08.02.2026 18:44 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I saw this earlier this morning and was like
1) this is awesome, and
2) wait, is that really a Shakespeare play? --> (Goes down rabbit hole)--> Most of the text is by others, but handwriting and a few stylistic tells suggest these lines are *likely* Shakespeare (though there are also doubters).
Nice! Thank you.
"I imagine an enormous machine
An engine of brass, steel, & steam
and the gears click & spin
Through their calculations
Precise & pristine"
Wow! Had no idea you were in a band. Listening now β really enjoying it.

02.02.2026 12:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My hot take about the βstudents cannot read whole novels / watch whole films / etc.β is that they can learn to do it. None of us are born with attention spans suited for long media. It is a learned skill and can be developed with practice.

31.01.2026 15:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Could you say a little more about the prompts you used & the process? Also, what does the output look like? I have a similar task in mind but for poetryβ¦

30.01.2026 15:39 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Curious -- is your approach no screens during regular class sessions (take notes in notebooks + all readings on paper) + writing assignments are in-class, handwritten ?
How are you handling longer / research-driven inquiry?
Yep! Guessing it was a few years ahead of you⦠my parents still go there.

18.01.2026 22:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My favorite bit from this important stock-taking of what's happened at the Smithsonian over the past year.
A lot of folks are trying to keep their head down and stay out of trouble... Cancel the exhibition with a portrait of a Black trans woman, erase the word "diversity"...
"Hamnet" is probably not for everybody...
While it is sad, it is not only that. I personally found it to be deeply engrossing and cathartic. Incredible performances from the child actors and from Jessie Buckley (Agnes Shakespeare).
Also a fresh take on feminist critical fabulation w/Shakespeare.
"I am now left to raise our son and to continue teaching him, as Renee believed, that there are people building a better world for him. That the people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts, and we need to show them a better way."
-Rebecca Brown Good
Seems like a great assignment! Could be esp. fruitful for "the internet" and "cell phone"... & some surprises if they pick "electric vehicle" (1884!)
Might be a little tricky if they choose "Artificial Intelligence," though maybe encountering complexity of that concept could also be instructive.
This Ursula K. Le Guin quote seems apropos (again):
"We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable β but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words."
Oh hey, we won an award! Cool.

Anyway, it's a really interesting novel that more people should read. Simple plain text edition here:

4. South Asian Americans probably need to invest in social media influence campaigns to correct falsehoods, misinformation, and out-of-context stories. Here, follow the Zohran model: wit, humor, and charismatic messengers go a long way. /End
31.12.2025 19:25 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 03. South Asian Americans need to rally behind politicians who support civil rights and secularism, and unify against those who donβt. Anyone who talks like Miller or Vance should get our vote. (In 2024, there was a surprising uptick in Indian support for Trump, even w/an Indian American running!) 5/
31.12.2025 19:25 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 3 π 02. South Asian Americans could use their economic clout to build lobbying groups and PACs to advance community interests. Indian Americans have been happy to spend money building showy temples. In politics, theyβve been somewhat inclined to stay on the sidelines. Itβs time for that to change. 4/
31.12.2025 19:25 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 1 π 01. South Asian Americans could work together with other minoritized communities to fight anti-Black and anti-Latino racism, all forms of xenophobia, anti-Semitism, and anti-Muslim rhetoric wherever any of these may crop up. We need to learn to see those fights as our fights. 3/
