My daughter’s carer is on a Social Care Worker Visa, expiring next year. It’s unclear whether it’ll be extended. She’s a qualified senior nurse but not able to get on the NMC register here. We’re closing the door on workers we need & who want to be here.

My grandfather was advised to anglicise his name when he joined the British Army in case he was captured.

My grandfather came from Germany and was interned for a bit in the UK (on a farm I think) and then joined the British Army and served in Belgium and Italy. A bit like Nigel’s grandfather😬, he changed his name from Kurt Fuld to Charles (Charlie) Fulton.

Same for the care sector. All my daughter’s carers are migrants (some have come fairly recently). They are all reliable, commited, lovely and caring!

I’ve a 20 y.o daughter with relatively high social care needs. Virtually all her carers are from outside the UK.

Not all care is via expensive care homes. Not all care is for elderly frail people. Ofc it all still costs; either us paying as individuals paying individually or us paying via taxes. Atrocious that no govt will take this on. Stopping visas while saying nothing about what you will do is 🤯

Exactly!! Saying what you won’t do but NOTHING about what you will do to on the social care workforce is classic head-in-the-sand behaviour. I despair what this means for my 20 y.o who has high care needs.😔

If the women’s cubicle is busy (which it almost always is) I use the (nearly always empty) men’s. Just give it a good wipe first. It’s all so ridiculous. It’s just a room with a toilet.
