seems obvious that this whole proposal was reverse engineered to add heft and a policy sheen to the "actually Mamdani is rich" line of attack

it is very funny that Cuomo tweeted out a half-baked inanity phrased as a policy proposal but obviously intended purely as an attack on Mamdani, and is now stuck supporting a disastrous housing policy that his team needed to reverse engineer to comport with his original tweet.

is an absolutely insane lyric for a 16 year old to write.

unless i missed some freshly reported recent update, i’m not sure it’s fair to describe what Judge Ho did as β€œblowing up the the deal between Eric Adams and the Trump DOJ.”

this is exactly the sort of straightforward and effective campaign messaging that undecided voters yearn to hear. glad to see this strong team of comms pros assembling behind eric adams.

personally, if i created a successful daily media and culture newsletter that found a wide readership based on my charisma and supposedly-unique insights, i would be embarrassed to publish a headline this incorrect (and would, at the very least, try to get the names of the people involved correct)

yes, they are sending out β€œan escalating series of warnings” to let people know that they are changing the policy. seems fair!

i agree that we need more aggressive enforcement against (and cultural punishment for) drivers, but i don’t follow this glovebox metaphor. regardless, i feel like you always post interesting stuff, i just didn’t understand this reaction to a straightforward fare collection upgrade.

i guess that's why they've settled on only adding the surcharge to mobile purchases from customers who repeatedly buy their tickets just before the conductor arrives (after an escalating series of warnings).

31.07.2025 02:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

the $2 is an increase on the existing $6~ surcharge for anyone purchasing a paper ticket onboard. i am not saying that's a great policy, but it seems like applying that penalty to mobile purchases at least brings some parity to the situation.

if EZPass RFID readers occasionally malfunctioned and gave some drivers free runs through a bridge toll, i wouldn't consider updating those readers to properly catch all the drivers "nickel and diming."

i agree that it was nice to sometimes sneak in a gratis ride because the conductor wasn't able to punch my ticket, but i am not sure that "effectively collecting the tickets they sold us" counts as the MTA "nickel and diming."

it's a mobile ticket purchased in-app, what is lost when the advanced purchasing timeline is shortened? why would someone purchase a train ticket on their phone weeks before their planned journey?

31.07.2025 01:38 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i don't understand, this seems like a fairly straightforward way to ensure that everyone who buys a ticket for a journey uses that ticket for the journey. am i misunderstanding some enforcement angle?

it's not funny. polling data like this means that several of the consultants running anti-Mamdani super-PACs may have to settle for owning just two homes.

this is an embarrassing thing for a professional political scientist to say. you do not need to debase yourself like this just to try save face while losing an argument.

yes, obvi ARR numbers are stupid and Anthropic's are fabricated but "letting something slip" means you're accidentally revealing something. Bloomberg is not "accidentally revealing" that Anthropic's annualized revenue went up $1bn in 30 days. Anthropic is deliberately telling everyone AAR is growing

15.07.2025 21:21 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

i don't understand how you're using the idiom "let slip."

Bloomberg is just reporting the ARR figures that Anthropic is giving to reporters.

what do you mean by "Bloomberg let something slip here?"
this "annualized revenue" spike is sourced to an Anthropic employee and also has been reported before in the Information (as you pointed out in your newsletter?)
