This is great. Death is part of life and we should not dance around it.

What a UK government led by Reform would really look like What the party's first six months at the helm at local level shows about how they govern - and whether they can keep their promises

A group of bickering ideological lunatics, whose core electorate is fundamentally reliant on the NHS & state pensions, & who propose to savagely cut both, through a deranged commitment to the idea of "waste", & basic racism labelled as antiwokery.

But hey, how *would* they do in Downing Street?

If parties want credit for telling hard truths, they need to tell them when they're genuinely hard.

If Labour had told the truth about taxes & the costs of Brexit before the election, its majority would be smaller.

But it would have more real power & the public would put more faith in its judgment

Suspect I am a bit younger but the same vibe. My circle were post punk or nothing. The Beatles were history and even now when I return, I avoid Matthew Street.
Grew to live the music though!

We're now at "black people aren't British". Open sewer racism. Look forward to seeing him on QT again soon.

The sheer greasy desperation from these bastards that any violent crime is committed by an immigrant so they can continue their grift. Even when they know it isn't true. Foul.

Hannan and Frost in the Telegraph.
Sunak in the Times.
Kwasi Kwarteng in the iPaper.
Johnson in the Mail.
Gove editing the Spectator.
Farage everywhere.
All of them shamelessly honking out their β€˜Listen to me!’ garbage, as the country flails around in the unbelievable mess they’ve made.
Nauseating.

Hard agree. Galloway is utterly toxic.

1989 is right up there. You also did not mention Dinosaur Jr, MBV in that mix.
I was living in MCR at the time, it was phenomenal.

An ex-Intel CEO’s mission to build a Christian AI: β€˜hasten the coming of Christ’s return’ Patrick Gelsinger, executive chairman of Gloo, has made it his mission to advance Christian principles in Silicon Valley

At a fundamental level, we have to accept much of silicon valley has gone insane.

Maybe. But feel there has been a shift that since WW1 passed out of living memory, it’s less mentioned.
I wonder if the same will happen for WW2 in time?

Interesting. I have often wondered how and when it all changed. And why it seems to get bigger every year.
And I speak as someone with a keen interest in history and the lessons thereof.

It is utterly astonishing how what was once unsaid is now the mainstream discourse. The past 10 years have seen racism come back and be normalised again. Utterly depressing.

My memory goes back to the 70’s but absolutely the same. The change to weeks of poppy wearing and performative remembering is tiresome and removes the true essence of it imho.

I wrote a piece last week about how the Far Right since Trump/Brexit have normalised discussing in public previously unacceptable things.

Tonight’s Peston show: β€œIs the Reform MP who says she’s driven mad by TV adverts full of Black and Asian people a racist or realist?”

The great contortionist | Robert Hutton | The Critic Magazine β€œI want to propose today a better, quicker, more open and more transparent solution!” Nigel Farage sounded like he was in an advertisement for soap powder. Thirty years ago he would have been going…

The Great Contortionist. In which Nigel Farage explains that Sarah Pochin is an accidental racist, not a real racist. and also right that there are too many black people on TV.
