Thames Water needs Β£3bn in 8 weeks or it goes bankrupt.

It must go bankrupt, it must not get a penny from Government, it must not be allowed to raise bills.

It is a private company, and it has private debts.

Time go find out what happens when you can’t pay your bills.

This is Not the Poem I Had Hoped to Write
Β
This is not the poem I had hoped to write
when I sat at my desk and the page was white.
You see, there were other words I’d had in mind,
yet this is what I leave behind.
Β
I thought it was a poem to eradicate war;
one of such power, it would heal all the sores
of a world torn apart by conflict and schism.
But it isn’t.
Β
Lovers, I’d imagined, would quote from it daily,
Mothers would sing it to soothe crying babies.
And whole generations would be given new hope.
Nope.
Β
I had grand aspirations. Believe me, I tried.
Humanity examined with lessons applied.
But the right words escaped me; so often they do.
Have these in lieu.

First DateΒ
Β
We’d so much in common, that was clear from the start:Β
a marriage of souls, like de Beauvoir and Sartre.Β
The connection was instant, almost irrational:Β
simply simpatico, fully compatible.Β
Β
You confessed you loved winter, north Yorkshire, and cats.Β
β€˜Me, too!’ I responded. β€˜How amazing is that?’ Β
You were wild about Wharton: you loved Ethan Frome.Β
β€˜His best,’ I said, thinking I’d read him when home. Β
Β
You praised a revival of Pinter’s Dumb Waiter.Β
I nodded along. I should google that later.Β
The discussion then turned to things that you hated:Β
Pulp Fiction, you thought, was quite over-rated.Β
Β
β€˜You make some good points,’ I eventually said.Β
I could always hide that poster under my bed. Β
You spoke of a loathing of poetry that rhymedΒ
and I said yes,Β
that stuff’s awful.Β

Both in the news today for differing reasons. Michael Sheen who remortgaged his house to fund the Homeless World Cup, Jeremy Clarkson who bought a farm to evade tax.
