Second day of ZA and find my 3rd shiny pokemon EVER 😍. This gold Magikarp swam out from under a bridge and stared blankly at me while I threw a pokeball. And then we ran around town and smashed enough gems for her to become this beauty! #pokemon

Here's the thing about being a trans person who lives with other trans people: Gender is a non-event in our household. We talk more about whether the dishes need to be done. When we're home amongst ourselves, the only time we generally talk about gender is when we're either making jokes about it or when we're recovering from having to deal with a world that makes our gender an issue. Come to think of it, all our jokes are pretty much coping mechanisms for dealing with a world that makes our gender an issue, so that's pretty much the only time it ever comes up. We don't spend time discussing our gender or debating pronoun usage or any of that. We don't need to, because we understand that our existence is a simple fact. We talk about what's for dinner. We make endless jokes about Good Omens. We talk about RWBY. We make plans to take the dogs to the dog park. We plan for the next step for our business. When trans people hang out with trans people, our gender is a non-issue unless we're discussing dealing with cis people misgendering us. Unless we're binding up each other's wounds from coping with a world that makes our genders an issue. When we're home, our gender generally doesn't come up unless someone outside our house has once again made our gender an issue. So: if you'd like to stop hearing about transgender people in the news constantly, the easiest way to do that is to work for a world in which our genders are as much of a non-issue as they are when we're at home. Create a world in which our genders are as simple of an accepted fact as the genders of cisgender people, a world in which TWOC aren't murdered simply for existing, and you'll stop hearing about trans rights and trans issues and and and.

We don't want to talk about it all the time, either. We're not the ones kicking trans people out of the military, killing TWOC, firing and evicting trans people for being transgender. We didn't make our identities political, and our identities aren't political when we're at home. Create a world in which our identities aren't a political chit used to scare people, and we'll be very glad to talk about dogs and TV instead.

I wrote this six years ago, and I'm so tired that the only thing I needed to edit was what media we are over-referencing.
