In an era filled with tech dipshits who never developed emotionally past the age of 13 & use their wealth to become odious monsters ...

β€œIn May 1954,Teal and Adcocj attended a technical meeting in which speaker after speaker discussed the insuperable problems posed by silicon. Finally, Teal rose to speak. something to be written about ea-nasir's ubiquity. i think it comes down to how very human he and his interlocutor are. more or less the minute after we invented agriculture, used car salesmen and karens followed in the wake of the farmers and priests

I anticipate a generational shift here. I'm seeing a lot of older people who can't understand family estrangement and younger people finding each other who understand it perfectly.

Ughh. This "everyone loves their family" stuff bugs me because terrible families of origin are transparently quite common for queer kids. I long ago learned to be judicious in talking about my own parents, who are awesome, because this is so clearly not the norm. It's just polite.

This is also my position re: equity concerns. β€˜get a good score on the test for which literally thousands of resources to prepare for exist” is far easier for low-SES applicants to navigate than the Byzantine maze of β€˜holisticβ€˜ admissions which have lots of unspoken rules, etc

20.11.2025 01:18 β€” πŸ‘ 281    πŸ” 21    πŸ’¬ 7    πŸ“Œ 2

My most extreme policy position on college admissions is that if you want to be really serious about admissions equity and preserving rigor, you just use some form of school adjusted GPA and standardized test scores and then lottery admit from all applicants above that threshold.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, statistical terminology is awful! in this case it arises from trying to cram something that's a little bit Bayesian into a frequentist framework, and you don't really need to care about the details unless there's a crotchety pedantic statistician around

19.11.2025 07:45 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

as I understood it, specific values of random effects aren't conventionally considered parameters in frequentist-land, they're "predictions" (hence BLUPs)

Two years and two days ago, a woman delivered some chili to her new neighbors. Everyone was very happy and normal and there were no lasting effects.
