What is under discussion here, though, is not comparable to marriage equality. That was the provision of new protections. All that trans people are asking is that previously-existing rights and laws be preserved and restored. That's a pretty fucking key difference, sorry.

If you abandon trans people, that 'potentially winning coalition' starts to look a good deal more shaky. Because other queer people *will* notice, and will worry about if Dems will support them if polling moves against them. And queer people are one of *the* most reliable Dem demographics.
