The reason Trump pardoned Jan 6 attackers is to send a message to his supporters that political violence against lawmakers and government officials is not just acceptable — it's now official policy.

Only somewhat related to this (very good, very unsettling) story, but as we hear more about how previously normal people react when constant, obsequious praise and affirmation is heaped on them by chatbots, it feels like a window into how so many celebrities and rich people end up like…that.

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

Counterpoint: Robert E. Lee was a treasonous loser who gladly slaughtered his fellow Americans in defense of slavery while being a mildly above average military tactician.

The Judciary has no enforcement arm, the DOD, DOJ, and Federal Marshall service works for and takes orders from The Executive. The Court can't force The Executive to do anything at all. It's time we start using the correct language.

i find this notion that public spending is illegitimate bizarre as a matter of economics but totally legible as a statement of moral economy. and as per any strict system of morality, the punishment is part of the appeal. they are punishing the american people for believing in the public good.
