This is the element of that film that haunts me - as it should. Lately, I've seen a lot of people downplay the depth of that film, and it really rubs me the wrong way.

It doesn’t even do that. The “best” thing about it is that the killer wears a bear costume and uses knives as claws. But even that’s a let down as he barely uses them. Second “best” are the males leads homoerotic relationship to each other. Everything else is steeped in veiled disgust.

And hey - I’m not opposed to it being shown or watched. Just understand where the movie is coming from. Its choices were made on purpose and everything that critics and bad actors were yelling from the rooftops about slasher movies at the time.

Listen, I love a bad slasher. I really do. Thing is, you have to know what you’re signing up for - and 1982’s GIRLS NITE OUT is probably one of the most misogynistic, hateful flicks I’ve ever watched. And it sucks in an unfun way. So, keep that in mind before buying a ticket, friends.

I don’t know what a “lukewarm horror take” is and I’m too afraid to ask.
