Very interesting! Have been interested in auditory responses in hippocampus for a while. Do you know which part of hippocampus
the recording was made from? (I guess you wonโ€™t know the subfield but perhaps where along the posterior-anterior axis).

Human insula neurons respond to simple sounds during passive listening The insula is critical for integrating sensory information from the body with that arising from the environment. Although previous studies suggest that posterior insula is sensitive to sounds, auditor...

Our new preprint is up now, wherein we directly record from a relatively large population of single neurons in human insula, as well as primary auditory cortex, while intracranial participants passively listen to simple sounds (tones/clicks). doi.org/10.1101/2025... (1/5) ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡

Brain bases for navigating acoustic features Whether physical navigation shares neural substrates with mental travel in other behaviourally relevant domains is debated. With respect to sound, pure tone working memory in humans elicits hippocampa...

My first post, announcing our preprint www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... Using fMRI we had subjects navigate to a target along an auditory dimension with no consistent spatial association. Similar circuits to those supporting physical navigation (e.g. hippocampus & orbitofrontal cortex) were engaged.
