My bill with @senatorharckham.bsky.social which requires law enforcement officers to take custody of firearms when responding to domestic violence incidents has been signed into law! This is a critical step towards protecting DV survivors and preventing deadly escalations.

Although the joy of this day is tempered by deep sadness as we await the return of the bodies of the hostages who are not coming home alive, may this long-awaited homecoming bring healing and peace to the hostages and their families, and to the region. (2/2)

I am heartened by the news of a ceasefire. Now we wait anxiously for the safe return of the hostages to their families. May this be the first step towards a lasting peace.

Having passed in both the Assembly and Senate, we are now even closer to giving New Yorkers this compassionate choice.

The Medical Aid in Dying Act (A.136/S.138) has just passed tonight in the Senate by a vote of 35 to 27- a historic step for dignity and choice at the end of life. I am grateful to my Senate partner, @bradhoylmansigal.bsky.social, whose advocacy has helped us reach this historic moment.

I was honored to be represented at the recent Interfaith Peace Vigil in Westchester, and stand in solidarity with the Hindu American and interfaith communities in unity and love.

The horrific attack in Kashmir, where innocent Hindu pilgrims were brutally gunned down, shatters the heart. My thoughts are with the victims, families, and the Hindu American community grieving this senseless act of hate.

At this week’s press conference on the Medical Aid in Dying Act, I was proud to stand with @bradhoylmansigal.bsky.social, whose advocacy in the Senate continues to move this vital issue forward. Having passed this bill in the Assembly, it’s time for the Senate to act.

Yesterday, the Assembly passed the Medical Aid in Dying Act, which allows terminally ill patients to request medication to peacefully end their suffering (A.136). New Yorkers facing unbearable pain deserve compassion, care, and the right to choose a dignified death.
