the difference between 15 minutes and 20 minutes cannot be overstated. 15 minutes is basically 7-10 minutes and 20 minutes is basically 30 minutes

While I'm here being really boring. For me and my N64 mate (for it was the UK and only the rich kid could have an N64) our multiplayer late into the night game was Conker's Bad Fur Day. Specifically the mode where it's heavily armed teddies Vs unarmed squirrels.

Besides the N64 being a legit hit in the US it was also the native four player machine (great if you have friends 😭). Add in MK64 being one of the really polished games in general and you have the game everyone remembers as the four player fun (besides GoldenEye)

When I first played Mario Kart 64 (by this point it was like... 2000) I genuinely thought "is this it?"

I'd already played CTR, Speed Freaks and Street Racer. Besides being the franchise that popularized it's particularly subgenre I think MK64 benefited from a lot of right place right time.
