Last weekend saw a lot of road closures in Toronto. Great to see ambulances using bike lanes to get people in distress where they need to go quickly.

We'll still need cars for longer trips, and trips that require us to haul large items, but orienting our entire transport strategy around them (especially in cities) is a horrible idea.

The only thing that will improve congestion is getting people out of cars and into public transit/biking/walking (depending on the type of trip). Cars of course will, and should, also be an option. Just not the only one.

Self driving cars (electric or otherwise) will do nothing for the environment. Obv. EVs are much better for air pollution, but they still cars; the most inefficient form of urban transport. 1/?

I'm sorry you don't buy it, but unfortunately this has been the case decade after decade where car infrastructure has been expanded at the expense of alternatives to driving. When people find out that the only feasible way of getting from A-B is with a car, they will be FORCED to buy/dust off cars.

I do think that Americans should have the freedom to put loud-ass glass packs and straight pipes etc on their vehicles, but I also think that every citizen should have a government-issued rocket launcher and get a $100k bounty for a successful hit on such a vehicle. this is sensible centrism
