i love seeing the random ass assortment of temperatures people are quoting with their pics of minneapolis. a sea of thousands of people out downtown, and a sea of randos sharing the same image over and over with "it's -9 in minneapolis." "it's -18 in minneapolis." "it's 25 below in minneapolis"

if everyone is spending a few hours out in the cold on patrols every single night, and no one is cooking dinner, that patrol capacity is gonna last maybe two weeks before everyone crashes. you have to rotate out. stay in and cook dinner for everyone, watch the kids, provide back-end support

sometimes the fight DOES look like a movie, as we have seen this week—but more often it looks like being on your laptop at home doing data entry

although, i am literally always saying this.

this is called the "tooth-to-tail ratio" and i wish everyone i know, including me, thought about it more

as a friend said to me recently: the optimal ratio is fifteen logistical soldiers for every frontline soldier. can't do it without support.
