I'll be the pedant: watts are already a rate unit so you don't need to say "watts per hour"

Haha, they actually had a separate ice cream counter in Coffman til this year, but I think they moved it to Goldy's to save on staffing. TBH it's not the best ice cream (not creamy enough maybe from being too cold). The flavors rotate but I like their mint m&m

You can also buy UMN ice cream every day at Goldy's Gameroom in the Coffman basement!

How to Rest & Recover While You Fight for Social Change: Manageable resting strategies to maintain your energy, connection, and motivation.

If you're hypervigilant (Non-stop scrolling, Looking over your shoulder) try this:

Set a timer and put your phone away for the duration. The information will be there when you get back.

What textures and elements make you feel comfortable and protected? (Your bedroom may already be set-up this way) Create a safety corner in your home.

If you're in a safe space: Affirm that your vigilance is there to protect you, but that you are allowed to let your guard down for a little bit.

Ask a friend to check-in on you once per day.

If you feel alone (Unsupported, Not a member of a team) try this:

Start an action-oriented group chat with a trusted circle. Research local organizing efforts and reach out to learn how you can get involved.

Attend a skill building webinar to expand your activist skillset.

If you feel numb (Disconnected, Emotions locked behind a wall) try this:

Affirm that you're holding your (valid) feelings at bay to protect yourself. Affirm that feeling your emotions is a form of protection

too.

Try journaling what you're seeing, hearing, experiencing, and how you're reacting (or not) to it.

Ground yourself in physical sensations. Take a hot or cold shower, drink cold water, or do small exercises. Physical connection can unlock your emotional connection.

Turn to something that typically brings you catharsis.

If you feel overstimulated (Buzzy, Sensitive, Retreating) try this:

Set a timer and lay down in a cool, darkened room.

Selectively turn your tech on/off, including non-essential push notifications.

Drink cold water and pay close attention to how it feels as you drink it.

Focus your muscle groups. Squeeze your hands tightly together, Tighten your toes, feet, and legs. Release. Repeat.

If your heart won't stop racing (Out of breath, Overly warm, Flickering) try this:

Drink a full glass of water. Eat a protein-rich snack.

Listen to low-tempo, soft music.

Hold hands with someone you care about.

Try a measured breathing exercise (in for 4, hold for 4, out for 8, repeat).

If you feel hopeless (Disempowered, Pointless, Incapable) try this:

Listen to a podcast episode where someone fights for change.

Read a bit of a book that focuses on social change.

Context and share with a trusted friend or accountability partner.

Take one small action (donation, signing a petition, or dropping water/supplies off at a protest site)

If you feel stuck in place (Frozen, Indecisive, Overwhelmed) try this:

Practice a physical grounding exercise (drink cold water, name your surroundings and how they fell, breathing exercises).

Do 10-15 minutes of exercise to get your body moving.

Create a manageable to-do list with normal tasks & activist tasks.

Find an accountability partner and create a check-in and support system.

Rest is not the enemy of change. It is one part of its fuel.

Let's not give him too much credit, I don't think O'Hara is saying they will intervene in detentions.

"Unlawful force" is a high bar, would he say anything ICE has done in mpls so far has warranted intervention if MPD could've?

Watch this video for remarkable bravery and wisdom from Christina Nguyen and Naomi Rathke, and sloppy journalism from @kare11.bsky.social which repeated uncritically ICE's claim to the numbers arrested and charges without seeking evidence of crimes or asking how many were U.S. citizens.

And shows stronger solidarity to the public than vague "immigrants are welcome here" signs.

We encountered an ICE immigration enforcement action on Park Ave. in Minneapolis today. When my colleague Ben Hovland and I arrived there were only a couple observers, but there were dozens blowing whistles by the time ICE agents left without making an arrest.

Sounds like ICE showed up at Hola Arepa tonight and staff successfully turned them away because they didn't have a warrant

There is so much wrong with American higher ed, but I hope folks can view it as a site of struggle rather than a "cooked" institution that should be abandoned.
I am confident that the world that comes after we give up on the University system will be dramatically worse.

Did you know there was a communist packaged foods company based in Superior, Wisconsin in the early 20th century?

"No warning" is a function of the separation ordinance, the feds know not to give a heads up. We need to strengthen it so local police are clear who they're supposed to be protecting

I should've said accurate for properly disclosed cams installed by law enforcement on public roads. Flock cameras on private property like parking lots are totally unregulated so still keep an eye out!

It has a nice "profile" feature so I set up the metadata for MPD and HC in advance, which makes entering them really quick. Also a good UI for multiple camera directions on the same node

If it's those wheeled units with the tower those are normal surveillance cameras but not ALPRs (at least the ones I've seen). Would love to confirm though if you can get a pic of the camera heads

If it's in a parking lot or otherwise on private property those are not managed by law enforcement and are basically unregulated as far as I can tell. That's why we still need this crowd sourced map even with MN's ALPR laws
