Two plum pudding charts made of white glowy dots on a black background. Chart title: Lighting up New Year's Eve. Subtitle: How many lights are on the ball dropped from Times Square? Each dot represents 100 lightbulbs. The chart on the left is made of 1 dot, titled 1907: 100 Incandescent bulbs. The chart on the right is a circle made of over 300 dots, titled 2009-Present: 32,256 LED Bulbs.
Sharing an old viz for NYE - in 1907, the ball dropped from Times Square in NYC had 100 incandescent bulbs. Now, over 30k LEDs light up the ball.
