BBC News bulletins leading on the story of an Algerian man being mistakenly released by the prison service.

Funnily enough I don't remember these cases ever leading the bulletins when an average of ten prisoners were mistakenly released a month in the final year of the last Government

When Elon Musk left DOGE in May, Tesla TSLA -5.15%decrease; red down pointing triangle investors hoped its longtime leader would hurry back to headquarters to focus on reversing a sales slump and recharging the company. For much of the summer, though, he was engrossed in something else.

Musk was holed up at his newest startup, xAI, trying to catch up in the artificial-intelligence arms race. Meetings with employees often stretched into the wee hours of the morning as they brainstormed ways to make Grok, its artificial intelligence, go viral, according to former executives and people who worked with him.

He personally oversaw the design of a racy chatbot called Ani, an animated character with blonde pigtails and revealing outfits. Employees were compelled to turn over their biometric data to train avatars like Ani. Musk unwound by playing one of his favorite videogames, Diablo, for long stretches in his office. He tended to his children, who cycled in and out of the building.

How OpenAI Uses Complex and Circular Deals to Fuel Its Multibillion-Dollar Rise Here are seven unusual financial agreements helping to drive the ambitions of the poster child of the A.I. revolution.

"Many of the deals OpenAI has struck β€” with chipmakers, cloud computing companies and others β€” are strangely circular. OpenAI receives billions from tech companies before sending those billions back to the same companies to pay for computing power and other services." www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

β€˜Beyond ironic’: Reform-led council says flags must come down so Christmas lights can go up Kent county council says union flags and flags of St George must come off street lights because of safety concerns A Reform-led council has ruled that union and St George’s flags must come down in order for a village’s traditional Christmas lights to go ahead, in a decision described as β€œbeyond ironic”. Harrietsham parish council was told by Kent county council – whose leader once vowed not to remove flags put up β€œunilaterally by the people of Kent” – that flags must come down from street lights before festive lights go up because of safety concerns. Cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube or peritoneum usually causes symptoms that are similar to common non-cancerous conditions. This can make it difficult to diagnose early.
If you have any of these symptoms or get these symptoms regularly, your GP should offer you cancer tests:
β€’ a long-lasting bloated or swollen tummy
β€’ feeling full quickly when you eat
β€’ loss of appetite
β€’ pain in the lower tummy area or back
β€’ peeing (passing urine) more often than usual
β€’ needing to pee urgently (feeling like you cannot hold on).
Other symptoms may include:
β€’ a change in your normal bowel function (diarrhoea or constipation)
β€’ weight loss for no obvious reason
β€’ unexplained or extreme tiredness (fatigue)
β€’ vaginal bleeding after the menopause.
If you are aged 50 or older and develop symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for the first time, you should also have tests. IBS can cause bloating and changes in bowel function. But it does not usually start after the age of 50.

There’s no screening for ovarian cancer and it’s really difficult to spot: you can’t squidge your ovaries in the shower to check for lumps. Also it’s very good at masquerading at other things, like IBS and diverticulitis.

Please take a look at this list of symptoms - and share if you can.

Beyond Our Means - Policy Exchange Download Publication Online Reader The UK faces a twin-pronged fiscal crisis. At about 100% of GDP, public debt is inordinately high and is set to rise a good deal further. Debt interest alone account...

Reading this, one proposal is to raise state pension age to 70, which is fine except our ageist society routinely forces people out of work in their 50s. Add to that most people can't afford to retire in their 50s and you potentially have a giant fucking crisis right there

Nigel Farage currently railing against Parliament being full of "professional politicians".

He founded UKIP in 1993 and was first elected as an MEP in 1999, twenty-six years ago. Less than 5% of current MPs (31 to be precise) have a longer career in politics than Farage. ~AA

Another 55mins of Farage carried live by BBC and Sky, in which he rambled for twice as long as briefed, and yet managed to say little of substance.

Why can broadcasters not simply give us 3mins of the low-lights after the event, as they would do with most other politicians? ~AA

Eurostar is 75% state owned (55% SNCF πŸ‡«πŸ‡· state, 20% SNCB πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ state) and is a monopoly on cross channel routes

BUT it sets prices like a rent seeking capitalist

What can πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ do to up capacity and drive down prices?

It can’t control Eurostar. So it can try adding competition

How else can you proceed?

"Three hops" came up a lot during the Snowden files.

If you have the average number of Facebook friends (338), you are within "three hops" of 38 million people. Three hops from a "terrorist organization or…affiliate" is enough to make every single person on the planet a target for a deadly strike.
