Yes, the problem will be proving the unwritten rule exiss (even though it obviously does).

Quite likely, but almost impossible to prove in a tournament in which players are signed by auction, and with the rule being (deliberately) unwritten.

The most surprising part of this story is that someone, even off the record, confirmed in writing that the unwritten rule existed - when the whole point is to obfuscate and deny.

Sadly, the answer to that, and for pretty much every other player is - of course not.

In T20 especially, rigid batting positions (beyond openers obviously) shouldn't be part of the thinking at all. It should be situational and flexible. They didn't play the situation correctly today IMO, and were lucky India botched a great opportunity in the chase.

Once again, a situation in which solidarity - a concept deliberately eroded worldwide in all fields - could force an equitable solution.
There's no tournament if players stand up for principle of fairness - or simply not wanting to be part of the next undesirable category - and refuse to play.

As well as an over emphasis on seniority, Nitschke frequently seems ridiculously rigid with ensuring left-hand right-hand combinations in the batting, even when it means bringing in players otherwise inappropriate for the situation.
They're also massively under-using Sutherland's batting.

Randomness, jeopardy, variance etc (also known as fun) is the beauty and the whole point of cup formats IMO.
If you don't want that, just have a league and be done with it. Better yet, don't even hold a tournament and just hand the trophy to the side with the best w/l ratio over a 2-4 year span.

That largely explains the administrators, but the weirder aspect IMO is the large number of fans from numerous nations, at domestic and international level, who seem to hate the jeopardy (also known as fun) of quarter finals

Cricket's aversion to the concept of quarter finals, both administratively, and from a vocal cohort of its fanbase, is one of the weirdest aspects of a frequently very stupid sport.
