@marriottbonvoy.bsky.social I need to amend a reservation at Vertigo Dijon but have had no response to my email... Is there a better way of doing so...? Modify doesn't appear as an option in My Trips in the App

A scorching hot day for the London Legal Walk, to support a really worthwhile cause... Not too late to donate / sponsor to help those who desperately need funding at the sharp end of legal advice.

I thought "Trumplethinskin" and "Shitler" would be hard to beat. "Ol Yam Tits" and "Mango Mussolini" tried hard. But in a story about his Kim Jong Ain't parade, I have now seen two new favourites... "Magamemnon" and the best yet in that context esp "Orangymandias".

Posse Comitatus Act now covers all branches of the US Military no?

I've seen numerous psychs arguing it was not cognitive decline in terms of dementia but rather entirely normal age-related slowing, coupled with fatigue. As confirmed (ok not an impartial source but still) by his granddaughter. Compare the current shitshow, he was a model of clarity.

not sure we should be asking permission or acceptance to be who we are from anyone, let alone someone who devoutly believes in their version of fantasy sky daddy.

That was Francis... But Leo is certainly not "rabidly" anti LBGTQ, but sadly somewhat less progressive than Francis. But hey he's a Catholic, so no real surprise. He has to deal with a radically different mindset from the African dioceses... Not sure this will determine his papacy though.

Not having a hard time, just don't agree.

04.05.2025 10:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yes they are. Whether it is acceptable is inevitably a product of fact and degree. Are you saying that every soldier is culpable for the decisions of their govt? The avg solider vs a Waffen-SS Camp Commandant? You don't see any difference qualitatively?

04.05.2025 10:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

No, I am defending those who hold PB in higher regard than PH. Christ I am one of the last to defend the State and its administrations. but an individual such as PB who serves both militarily and in politics as Mayor, Transport Sec etc, does not seem to deserve the same opprobrium.

04.05.2025 10:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Not directly but by implication - in answer to the argument that as a serving soldier he was not to blame for the decisions and orders of his govt, you went full Godwin, and used the analogy of "an ordinary SS member" at a Concentration Camp. I pointed out how inapt that was. No misconstruing by me.

But it is widely accepted to be both. My Jewish father's family (including himself, my aunt, my grandparents, cousins etc) would all have been at grave risk had they not fled Europe before the 2nd WW. So please. Don't shoot from the lip.

Please get it through you little brain - I am not an American! FFS. I've only said it three times. I agree - exceptionalism is horrendous. I am not defending it. I am defending an individual who was not part of any such exceptionalist decision making.

04.05.2025 10:01 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Please do me the honour of effing off then (as someone of Jewish heritage I would be offended by your moronic outpourings but can't summon up the energy.) You compared Pete Buttigieg to the SS. I pointed out the inaptness of your comparison. Bye bye.

04.05.2025 09:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

And if you mean US as my country - it isn't. You seem incapable to divorcing the individual from the state. Also incapable of nuance and balance. But hey ho.

04.05.2025 09:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I am certainly not "literally" and not even "figuratively defending" it. I am defending others' praise of individual army officer who on all evidence performed his duties assiduously & honourably. I am quite capable of holding a vastly different opinion of the Govts who prosecuted those conflicts.

04.05.2025 09:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

And SS - Schutz Staffel - were not "the army" - but a latterly Himmler led paramilitary organisation operating outside the norms of the army. The Waffen-SS (political soldiers in effect) chose and were selected for their loyalty to the cause. Normal men and officers of the Heer despised the SS.

Ah I thought we'd get here. There are lines not to be crossed in conflict. Torture, inhumane treatment, looting, genocide are those lines. The day to day soldier guarding said camps following orders, one thing. The Hoess, Hass, Koegels of this world - prosecute and punish till the cows come home.

04.05.2025 09:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I won't delete the apostrophe comment because otherwise my apology won't make any sense. But hopefully others will see it was uncalled for.

04.05.2025 09:47 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Fair enough, I doubt that you do, but the apostrophe complaint was entirely misplaced, apologies.

04.05.2025 09:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Here you go again - a war criminal? How? By what metric? A serving soldier goes where ordered. They are not culpable for the venality of their political masters. Aliter those who themselves commit war crimes, looting, torture etc. But simply serving, no. Not remotely.

04.05.2025 09:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I am certainly not i) American nor ii) an exceptionalist. One can decry a Govt's purpose in a conflict but at same time defend a serving soldier who themselves did nothing wrong in said conflict. Or are you saying every single serving soldier falls to be prosecuted for the decision of their Govt?

04.05.2025 09:43 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

No actual argument because the point is so fatuous as not to call for an answer. Explain why a serving soldier is to be "called to the Hague"? Any specific war crime HE is said to have committed? Or just because you do not agree with the Govt's purpose in the conflict? As I said, fatuous & specious!

04.05.2025 09:41 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Reality? To praise a soldier deployed to an active zone - whether you agree with the Govt's purpose of the conflict (what exactly was the resource of Afghanistan that was being taken?) is vile? That's an interesting take not reality.

04.05.2025 09:39 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah no apostrophe there.

04.05.2025 09:36 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

interesting take

How gracious of you. I've no doubt there are transphobic bad actors leaning into the debate. But that does not mean & cannot mean there are not also genuine concerns from women, not transphobic, wanting trans people to have rights but who don't want their extant rights diminished w/o consideration.
