As the cost of article 5 being shown to be merely a piece of paper will make spending 3.5% by 2035 (a total joke when russia will be able to rebuild its military force in under 2 years should the war in Ukraine halt) seem trivial.

Great article & totally agree with the fundamentals. But what frustrates me so much is this is part of the wider lack of honesty in the discourse. We are entirely unprepared militarily to fulfil our NATO obligations should russia attempt an incursion into say Estonia. We have to spend now to prepare

It just occurred to me that of all the state leaders meeting in the White House, Zelensky represents the country with the largest army. Sure, the US and others have more expensive equipment, but it's still food for thought.

It's critical for people to have the right expectations.
US support for Ukraine in 2025 is nonexistent. Europe carries everything.
This also means that there is VERY LITTLE leverage that Trump actually have. Only patriot missiles are critical, for other there are now alternative supplies.

It’s very frustrating that UK and France have wasted the chance to deploy troops in Ukraine prior to these talks as huge amounts of time and focus wasted on “coalition of the willing”. And the failure to spend the frozen russian assets on arming 🇺🇦 a massive own goal

I mean you can literally go and protest on all the horrors in Gaza without needing to be part of a group that sabotages British military assets and destroys businesses, it’s not hard. Would suggest visiting an actual police state to see what happens if you condemn the government in say russia!
