Oh nooo, I was right, it was tragic! RIP the favorite sandwich spot.

Saw some geese in V-formation, going south, occasionally honking, and thought, "Wow, how picturesque and autumnal." Then one peeled off and headed north. The others freaked out and wheeled around to follow, honking nonstop, then gave up and turned south again. No idea what I saw but it felt tragic.

a man with a mustache is talking about barbecue sauce Alt: Ted Lasso from the show "Ted Lasso" says, "Barbecue sauce," before throwing a dart and hitting the bullseye.

That moment when you finish a short story and even pre-revisions you know it's gonna be the best thing you've written to date.

Have you played Nine Sols, and if so how does it compare? Cause that game was breaking my thumbs. Something between Hollow Knight and Nine Sols would be great.

Lessons From the Slushpile: Good vs. Great When I got stuck for a blog topic this week I asked for suggestions on Twitter. Three of you said youÒ€ℒd like to read about what IÒ€ℒve learned from working for Lightspeed Magazine. This is timely…

This might have one foot in writing advice and one foot in critique, but I've always appreciated this piece from Christie Yant. (The formatting went wonky since I last read it)

Oh nooo! Mosscap is such a great character in general, I would have been disappointed too by a change in voice. I think I must have listened to a different version because I didn't notice a change between books. Or maybe I just wasn't that observant πŸ˜…

Thanks so much for this thread! Do you happen to know how an author could file their info if their work appears in LibGen as part of a short fiction collection, the copyright of which is filed under the name of the editor who published it? That's where I'm at right now and not sure how to proceed.

It had such a unique medieval sound, and the narrator was so good too. She actually does announcements at some train stations in Japan, and one day I heard her and was like, "...is that the CRYSTAL CHRONICLES narrator?" So weird to encounter her voice in the wild.

Crystal Chronicles was such a gem all around, but that OST? Too good.

Exactly all of this! I was thinking of you when I wrote this post. I still do want to read some older stuff after reading I, Robot, even though yeah, it can be dated. Coming from a friend, book recommendations hit differently.

Thinking about the discussion of, "What are the classics and should they be pushed," and I think here is another place where short fiction shines. I don't have that much desire to read the so called Golden Age stuff (I'm currently living through a Golden Age) but I'll always read a short story.

Late to the party, but I just read Not a Fish by @adykstal.bsky.social in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social. I can't overstate how good it is. Tense, thoughtful, captivating. Took me a while because I kept stopping to marvel at what was unfolding on the page.

We report as light moves from the sky to the street lamps: there is a patch of wasteland between two houses where heather blooms in the summer. Our expert took us there tonight, and the crickets could be heard from down the road, and the smell of the dry brush coloured the air.

There’s no way to ease into this news, so here it is. Today, I am announcing ConCurrent Seattle, a one-day SFFH con intended to be an alternative program to WorldCon, scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the ACT Theatre in downtown Seattle at 700 Union Street, across from the Sheraton. 1/7
