Hard to know what to say watching the recent news from the US from the UK except that in the midst of truly horrifying cruelty and hatred I've seen so many stories of people coming together to fight for each other and care for their communities and that is incredible

New writing routine is: wake up a bit early to write, struggle to wake up, open computer and stare at scrivener, run out of time and have to get ready for work πŸ˜‚ gah

Every time I have a long train journey I think I'll get loads of writing done and then inevitably don't because it's cramped and there are people near me which apparently turns off my creative mind entirely but I did manage 4 handwritten pages in an 8 hour journey. Unsure if that's a win

A zoomed in picture of a woman's tote bag sitting on a blue train seat. The tote is cream and a stylized Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen is slut dropping in heels and a rainbow thong in front of a two tone blue heart. You can only read the word bella below him but the tote says 'this is the ass of a killer bella'

I've managed roughly four sentences of writing and three submissions this week and got a couple of rejections which have felt particularly rough on top of a week of ✨anxiety✨. Petition to restart the year in Feb?

Any hot tips for re-sparking creativity after a patch of anxiety or depression? Stick em below because I'm guessing it's not just me that struggles to pull myself back to a creative headspace

In a world where hate-filled freaks never stop shrieking it's easy to forget that normal people are like this. And it's so wonderful.

As a side note I requested a load of books in my library's ebook format and they can't get them as they aren't on the borrow box catalogue (trad pubbed and including even The Fifth Season) which surprised me. A shame more sff isn't even available as ebooks to the libraries

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix. I've been in such a reading rut but so far this is working for me (high praise for my current state). Very readable whilst still being excellently written. I've bounced off so much this last year I'm pleased to be getting through it and enjoying.

First two reads of the year (both half finished):

The Potency of Ungovernable Impulses by Malka Older on audiobook. This series has been such a nice easy, comforting one for me and is perfect in the little mental health blip I'm having and has been getting me through the last week.

Why do people get so hyped about starting new things in January. It’s the middle of the cold season. Go hibernate.

I said I finished a story all proud of myself and my dad thought I had finished my novel and got excited and I had to tell him I have not in fact finished that which kinda cut the finished story high short BUT I finished something I think shoes growth so time to get rejected some more!

I got to read an early iteration of this story and immediately knew it was something special. Another one by my powerhouse of a friend Anna Clark. Go read it you won't regret it. #newstory #shortstory #sff

What we loved about: β€œAlfred and the Court of the Giant Cormoran” by E.J. Wilde is a lovely story about friendship and healing, with some cool magic thrown in too.

A love letter to public libraries: I'm in a new town waiting for my girlfriend to finish work. I have three bags I need to finish work too. The public library here is beautiful and has a community area and computer area both in solid use and loads of books and a free coffee machine ❀️ more of this!

I would have said nothing tanks your ability to write like the looming end of a six month contract and the depressing cycle of applications and rejections and then I added antidepressant withdrawals (brain zaps, parathesia and mood swings anyone?) to the mix πŸ˜‚

Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling.

I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.
