I’m a writer and woodworker living on the water (eek, too much alliteration!). Happy on the Grand Union Canal.

Talking about the UK’s bounty of graveyard waxcaps, here are a group of Hygrocybe conica, Blackening Waxcaps or commonly known as Witches Hat mushroom, all lined up like the Three Amigos. #fungi

The nuthatch is by far my favourite bird (and there are so many to choose from!). This shot is wonderful! I’m so pleased to have found your work. 😊.

A close-up of a Eurasian Nuthatch perched on a pebble-covered ground. The bird is slightly puffed up, showing its soft, dense winter plumage. Its head is tilted upward, revealing a black eye stripe and a pointed beak.
小石が散らばる地面にとまったゴジュウカラのクローズアップ。鳥はふっくらと羽毛を立てており、冬の密な羽毛の質感がよくわかる。頭を少し上げ、黒い過眼線と尖った嘴が見えている。

Round and feathered, they carry warmth where the cold forgets 😊🪶

A Common Kingfisher perched on a bare branch. Its back and wings shimmer in blue and turquoise, while its chest and underbelly are a rich orange-brown. The bird faces slightly left, with its long, pointed beak angled forward. The background is softly blurred in grayish-blue tones, highlighting the bird’s vivid plumage.

After two months without a proper shot, I finally photographed a Common Kingfisher! 😊 I’d spotted it here and there, but it never stayed. 🪶

A large brown and white raptor perched on a tree branch against a pale blue sky. The feathers on his head are standing straight up and the bird is looking directly into the camera, giving him an indignant expression.

I don't think this Osprey appreciated me taking his picture when he was having a bad hair day! Or maybe he was just grumpy because he'd dived for a fish and come up empty - and wet.

Opening the kiln is always a little nerve wracking but, if I do say so myself, the latest batch of replica, Nene Valley, barbotine decorated, Roman colour coated Hunt Cups, have come out looking rather splendid! Get them before they sell out. #Archaeology🏺https://share.google/VBg75ubdqserv59ph

I’ve never heard of mushrooms that do this! I write ghost 👻 stories and now I need to write about these fiendish fungi! Do you have any idea what they’re called?

This is a question #moss Bluesky friends: does anyone know of a good pack of flashcards for identifying/learning names of mosses in the UK? Something small to fit in a pocket?

A cascade of mossy tufts on an old cement planter has collapsed into a brown sludge avalanche, with a rim of misty looking white mycelium encroaching into the healthy moss mat. Along the edge of the brown patch, and seeming to peek up at the vibrant surviving moss, a beautiful line of teeny, rubbery orange mushrooms forms a fairy ring. They are slick and glossy from the rain. The mycelium is so finely spun that I thought it was a mold attacking the moss, until all the dead patches I'd noticed started to mushroom simultaneously in the past 3 weeks. This is on Southern Vancouver Island, if you're joining me on the ID quest. I can't find any mention of moss-eating fungus on the SVIMS website.

There's a fungus at work that is attacking the vibrant thick moss mats that have grown on all the old cement. Suddenly in the past week the sad dead patches have all made charming orange mushrooms around their edges! A mycelial cloud's siver lining, so to speak haha.

For today’s #BirdoftheDay #movement theme I have a sparrow hawk that a minute earlier was patiently waiting on top of the bird table. Taken through glass from a bedroom window with a phone (don’t judge me 😜).

A shiny steel ring plate with an orange bungee attached by a carabiner. Set against a wooden background, position top and centre. It all resembles a thin face with his mouth open and tongue sticking out.

A vertical shot of an aged stone fountain column topped with a thick, vibrant layer of green moss. Water drips in thin, illuminated streams from the mossy brim, catching the light as it falls. The background features dense trees and foliage, with a bright sunburst flaring through the branches in the upper left, creating a golden glow that highlights the falling water droplets against the darker shadows. A black iron fence is visible at the very bottom of the frame.

I'll never be able to afford a real live edge bar counter and tree stump table so I made a miniature version!

I'm going to be putting these on my tabletop and somehow work a very trendy cafe into my adventure.

And we’re done! Last three chairs completed. That was hard work, and I still have much to learn in the upholstery stakes. Happy with the results though 🌈🤸‍♂️😊

Hey, it’s cool to like things. Tell somebody about the thing you enjoy. Maybe they like a similar thing!

Yesterday I was crocheting while waiting in a doctor’s office and a lady sat down beside me. She started telling me about the baskets she was crocheting for Christmas. It was a delight!!

Next step of the bergamot box (made from orange peel). Gilding the lid! Interestingly I couldn’t mask it off because the essential oils in the skin stopped tape sticking. A lesson in concentration and patience 😁! #craftwithcuriosity #oldcraft #maker #craft #goldleaf
