Terrific news for @georgetownlaw.bsky.social that my former boss Elizabeth Magill will be their next dean. She's an incredible leader: tough-minded but fair, great judgment, someone who gets what faculty, students and staff need to succeed. Smart decision by @georgetownuni.bsky.social.

Trump & Co are rolling out the red carpet for corporate crimes of all kind: environmental, financial, workplace abuses. Screw your workers, pollute the planet - it’s all good. The only enforcement this team will do involves hunting down immigrants trying to live their lives & contribute (1/2)

I met Ian outside the Whipple Building in Mpls last week, where he was protesting ICE. I was blown away by his vulnerability, by how deeply he—a 6-time combat vet—feels like his nation is under attack. I just learned that he was among those arrested by federal officials for protesting at the church.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street

It would be terrible if the publicity from this led more people to call him pedophile-protector president wherever he went.

Man, she was literally killed while doing ICE monitoring

Killed FOR doing ICE monitoring!

That's the POINT, that's why it's so chilling, they're claiming a right to kill citizen-observers in cold blood

man this is brutal. Just a reminder: Marc Andreessen took a man with zero experience in either tech or finance, and hired him at the most powerful and influential venture capital firm in the industry, solely on the basis that he strangled one of my neighbors to death for being Black.

Opinion | Americans Won’t Have Faith in the Rule of Law Until the Law Works for Them Mandatory arbitration, underfunded enforcement and corporate malfeasance have eroded Americans’ trust in institutions. It’s time for government to fight back.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

"At its best, the law is not a tool of the powerful but a promise to the people," Seth Frotman and David Seligman write. "Legislators and regulators must make that promise real again."

The War on Professionalism and Professional Competence Incompetence and sloppiness are the self-conscious ethos of the administration.

"Trump II administration figures often speak the language of merit in order to contrast it to 'DEI' or 'affirmative action,' but in practice they only hire incompetent clowns—so long as they are also loyal clowns." - @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com

Nuzzi's fawning coverage of the sociopathic conspiracy crank she was having an affair with aided his rise to political power, which he is using to perpetrate the worst intentional public health catastrophe of our unnecessarily shortened lifetimes, and THAT is the STORY.

America's Paths to Personalism The three primary risk vectors of the second Trump administration.

It’s honestly wild how much of a non-story it was that the House went out of session for so long just to avoid this Epstein stuff. That it happened really is a sign of how far down the path to personalization the GOP has gone www.liberalcurrents.com/americas-pat...

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

Hagerstown nail salon owner freed after 5 months in ICE custody Melissa Tran, a Hagerstown mom and nail salon owner, was freed five months after being detained by ICE and jailed in Washington state. A federal judge ruled that U.S. officials had no basis for prolon...

Trump said he'd focus on the “worst of the worst," but he's mostly focused on people like Melissa Tran — a MD business owner who's lived here 30 yrs and is a fixture of her community.

Cruel.

I salute all who fought for her release. After months in ICE detention, she's finally home.

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

He blew off an order from a judge SO THAT he could send hundreds of mostly innocent men to a concentration camp, based on false claims of gang ties.

Why Did a 75-Year-Old Man in Poor Health Just Die in ICE Custody? Isidro Perez came to the United States from Cuba nearly 60 years ago. This is who Stephen Miller is going after now?

Just awful: A 75-year-old man just died in ICE custody, ICE has revealed in a notice to Congress.

But here's the rub: This man, a Cuban national, was first paroled into the US in 1966—nearly 60 years ago! They were set to deport him anyway.

the political lesson everyone should take from Iraq is that you will regret being in favor of this sooner or later and the earlier you were against it the better off you’ll be

ignore the media frenzy and stake your position now, it’s the right thing to do and it’s the ambitious thing to do too

ICE believes it will never face accountability again The Trump administration is letting an unaccountable secret police form at the heart of our democracy.

This is excellent and painfully necessary & says a lot more than its headline suggests - so it’s well worth reading it through.

HAWLEY: Let's see the Trump chart. You don't think it's a little bit anomalous that Trump has so many more nationwide injunctions against him?

KATE SHAW: A very plausible explanation you have to consider is that he's engaged in much more lawless activity than other presidents

Cover of the policy brief by the National Institute for Workers' Rights. Making Equal Opportunity Real: How Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Efforts Combat Workplace Discrimination

Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives don't undermine merit, they protect it.

Our new policy brief examines how biases at work persist, inclusion policies counteract those biases, and ending these initiatives will expose employers to legal liability.

4) It's driving me a little crazy the idea that the Democratic party has something it has to answer for when, in fact, the party undertook a totally unprecedented, wrenching, brutal, difficult effort to PUSH OUT THEIR OWN NOMINEE just a few months before election day!
