Being a High-Profile Comedian Right Now Is No Joke

Masterly analysis by @jasonzinoman.bsky.social β€” stick around for the subtle but savage filleting of β€œKremlin star” Jimmy Fallon [giftie] www.nytimes.com/2025/09/20/a...

It’s really engrossing and I do hope it finds a life streaming somewhere because its length lends itself better to episodic viewing. But also BLEAK!

Orson Welles’ Lost Movie Will Use AI to Reconstruct Missing 43 Minutes Amazon-backed firm Showrunner, led by Edward Saatchi, is using the film as a test case for how Hollywood can overhaul production. The results won't be commercialized β€” the tech giant hasn't obtained r...

Don’t normalize this shit. It’s an affront. The last thing we want is for something like this to be financially successful or make waves in any way. If the β€œtest case” benefits those bankrolling it, where does this stop? Do we get a fake β€œoriginal” cut of GREED next?

I’ve compared The Magnificent Ambersons to the Venus de Milo. A piece of art profound in its craft that’s been mutilated; yet, despite that perceived flaw, its beauty remains. The negative space created by the missing pieces paradoxically enhances and detracts from the whole

There are ethical ways to recreate the lost minutes of The Magnificent Ambersons similar to what has been done to the lost episodes of Doctor Who when missing elements have been found. They’ve animated portions to found audio tracks. Granted, we don’t have that for Ambersons but they are better ways

Welles famously didn’t want people meddling with his films. He s reporter to have said to a reporter, β€œyou keep Ted Turner and his crayolas away from my movie” when Turner’s company planned to colorize Citizen Kane

The missing 43 minutes of The Magnificent Ambersons are something I think about constantly. Someone finding lost canisters somewhere is a dream beyond imagining. However, this would be the greatest dishonor to Welles, Tarkington, the cast, and everyone who worked on this film

It’s funny that when Breaking Bad first debuted some outlets went, β€œoh, it’s kind of like Weeds” and now people would probably say the reverse if you brought up Weeds.

It should be remembered how extraordinary it is that an opening exists for Mamdani at all. It is New York City. If a Democrat mayor lives and breathes he should be re-elected. But it so happens the current one is a historically great idiot.
