Simultaneous acts of provocation & incitement to hatred occurred at the entrance of mosques in & around Paris. These incidents should not be seen in isolation after a number of anti-Muslim murders, desecration of mosques, intimidation of civil society fighting anti-Muslim hatred.

Today, we commemorated the 1995 Srebrenica genocide and honoured the victims, at the invitation of several Embassies. We mark the 30th anniversary of a genocide that occurred on European soil, targetting people on ethnic and religious grounds. Remembrance and Justice are key for a lasting peace.

An increase of 75% of Anti-Muslim acts in France between January & May 2025 compared to the previous year. This worrying figure may not fully grasp the scale of the phenomenon. Acts affecting Muslim individuals rose by 209% over the same period.

2/2 No anti-Muslim content was removed by the platforms at all! Much more needs to be done at a time were we witnessed two racist murders in France within a little bit more than a month, by perpetrators who had been using social media to radicalize themselves and advertise their crimes

1/2 I took part in the #UnitedAgainstHate campaign, notifying antisemitic & anti-Muslim content to 3 platforms (X, Youtube & instagram). The results are horrifying! Out of 161 antisemitic & anti-Muslim items reported, only 3 items were removed (2 on YouTube & 1 on instagram) unitedagainsthate.online

2/2 According to the report of @EURightsAgency "Being Muslim in the EU" of October 2024, 74% of respondents experienced discrimination in the 5 years before the survey in Austria. This was the highest figure in the EU. Only 3% of such cases were reported to relevant institutions.

1/2 Important release of the 10th report on anti-Muslim racism in Austria by civil society organisation @dokustelle: in 2024, it documented 1336 racist attacks against Muslims and people perceived as such. Muslim organisations and Dokustelle were themselves targets of hatred.

Swastikas, Qurans soiled with urine... A place of worship totally vandalized although the association had previously called the police after suspecting intrusions. Tires, gas bottles & gasoline cans were also found. Need for a comprehensive report about anti-Muslim hatred/racism?

I was happy to receive an award on Diversity and Inclusion at the @ec.europa.eu for being a Changemaker of the year alongside colleagues working on the fight against racism and beyond. Much more needs to be done, at a time when we witness horrifying levels of hate speech and actual hate crimes.
