Call me crazy but I think a community that already relies on volunteers to put out fires set by idiots burning tires and to save lives until EMS can arrive sometimes hours later and even to assist police at 5 am to catch drug dealers shouldn't be asking us to also pick their fucking grapes for free.

I kept seeing over and over again "we help each other here" "we take care of each other". The local winery asked for volunteers during harvest. When I spoke against not paying people (as companies ought to do, imho), I was scolded for it with that line. We do eh? How's that... with volunteers.

She had been ill for awhile and the townspeople had completely neglected her, despite her lifetime of giving through volunteer work. The daughter was heartbroken.
