I've experienced bike jams on the Mount Vernon Trail outside DC on weekends with good weather. Part of me is frustrated, but part of me is happy that so many people like using the bike trail. Maybe that will lead to more bike trails.

When you’ve been living in a dirty place long enough that you’re used to it having the place actually clean feels like a revelation. Now use that positive momentum to do other stuff you’ve been putting off (least that’s how it always is with me).

You can't rely on their goodwill. Most drivers hate cyclists. There's this one spot I ride by a lot that was hopelessly overrun with bike lane parkers. Never thought they were going to do anything about it. Then the city put up bollards and just like that nobody parks in the bike lane anymore.

Honestly, I think it's as simple as using outdoor space for more dining would cut into the availability of parking. They closed a couple blocks to cars in the touristy part of my city and all the restaurants along there look positively European with all the outdoor dining they have now.

I love Capital Bikeshare. I joined as a stopgap until I got my bike repaired, but I liked it so much I just never got my bike repaired. Inside the beltway, you're never more than a 5 min walk from their 800+ stations. No worries about theft. Can ditch the bike anywhere and take the Metro home.

It's cultural as much as lack of good public transit. I work in the DC area, with a proper subway. Employer pays pub trans fares. Getting to work is free if you take the subway. Yet half the office insists on paying $150/mo to rent a parking spot & like $20 in tolls. Not to mention gas & maintenance

I can't believe it costs $100K/yr. I've only graduated 15 years ago & I'm already woefully out of touch with the price. When I graduated private schools were about $50K/yr. Prices have doubled in 15 years. That's insane. This can't go on forever. It's gotta get to a point where ppl just can't pay.

Yeah, Yellow Springs is about as hippie as hippie towns get and the college there (Antioch) is well known for being very left wing and non-traditional. You’re going to get a very distorted view of liberals if the students of Antioch are your primary experience of liberals.

I just can't imagine being a person who spends their free time walking around looking for homeless people to report. And then she gets mad when the same tent shows up at another park. Where did you think they were going to go, Detroit? The only way to fix the problem is to actually fix the problem.
