A Woman of No Importance the proto Talking Heads monologue Routledge stars in is so very very good and probably what made Wood want to bagsy her. She watched a lot of telly.

Aw, sad to see. I think I read in the Victoria Wood biography that Routledge checked with Alan Bennett if he was OK with her doing Kitty, though ironically this line is pretty much his later Talking Head for Routledge (Irene in A Lady of Letters) in miniature.

There's an illuminating episode in the book from the days Cryer lived in rooms in the same house as Douglas Camfield and Angus Lennie. I asked him about Camfield once. I wouldn't have done if I'd any idea there was a story there he would've been uneasy anecdotalising.
