I stalled on this for decades. I'd been a bit perturbed by part of a reading on Jackanory about the Shadow but bought it because the doublet and hosey cover suggested something Narniaish. Literally began again last week. Near end now and worry we won't hit the Immanent Grove imminently. Good stuff.

A writer writes. Absolutely not about the process of getting a film made.
Garth Marenghi: I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards.

Ooh, new Partridge. Brain butterflies away... I always like a Partridge where you get to imagine the editorial process- eg. Knowing Knowing Knowing Me with Alan Partridge (the unjustly forgotten radio behind the scenes doc).

A vague hint of missing Avengers season 1 episodes still being out there means I'm now regrettably forced to drink wine to ensure a good night's sleep. My life...

Oh oh oh. I so fondly remember the evening he got to see the other Tunnel of Fear! A lechier Steed than fan memory recalled, a plot less worked through than Dorney imagined.
I'd love the proper version of one of my two reinventions to turn up. I suspect Dragonsfield might've been particularly good.

Listening to an audiobook where English people are saying Xavier as Exavier rather than Zavier. This is however a Xavier who speaks with a US accent so there's possible wriggle room as we go on. He may have persuaded people to address him as an Xavier instead of a Zavier.

#RunBore 15km run. I am knackered. Top running list banger was this one (for cool down period with mild euphoria) indie cinema's top ice cream van chime anthem since Badlands. youtu.be/7BWoQJbPkwQ?...

A Woman of No Importance the proto Talking Heads monologue Routledge stars in is so very very good and probably what made Wood want to bagsy her. She watched a lot of telly.

Aw, sad to see. I think I read in the Victoria Wood biography that Routledge checked with Alan Bennett if he was OK with her doing Kitty, though ironically this line is pretty much his later Talking Head for Routledge (Irene in A Lady of Letters) in miniature.

There's an illuminating episode in the book from the days Cryer lived in rooms in the same house as Douglas Camfield and Angus Lennie. I asked him about Camfield once. I wouldn't have done if I'd any idea there was a story there he would've been uneasy anecdotalising.

Had a roaring and howling time in the audience for Consumed at @sheffieldtheatres.bsky.social tonight. So close I could smell the potatoes. Very funny, very moving. See it if you can on tour. painesplough.com/productions/...

Really enjoying the all OB VT episodes of Z-Cars just now. Small casts, events unravelling in something approaching real time, washed out white skies. Another era.

Enjoying The Newsreader but in a sane world we'd be in season umpteen of The Hour by now charting the move from Not Quite Nationwide to Not Quite Sixty Minutes in about the same period.

I imagine Ironbridge and Blist Hill would side with their West Midlands big brother, but if it's wide shots with strategic tram passes that are required they're in trouble.

In a fight to control historical drama filming locations I strongly suspect Crich would side with Beamish to defeat the Black Country Museum.

I'm haunted by the Radio 4 news report of his death that explained worried relatives were hiding his tools from him in the house when they heard the gunshot from the garage. For a moment it was absurdly, darkly funny, then you put yourself in their shoes and imagined the horror of those final days.

It seems likely to me Belinda's story is Ruby's arc retrofitted to work around Millie having reduced availability. This may be wrong, widely speculated, or confirmed, I don't know, but it's how it feels to me. I suspect working 'round that change of direction might have weakened both season finales.
