In Washington state, when we first switched to all mail in voting, there was a spot to add a stamp. Most places your ballot would be delivered without one, but even an implied poll tax of one stamp is unacceptable, and those ballots now mail back for free. No poll taxes, no exceptions, ever.

That last sentence? That's the strategy. They've been pretty open about it.

jesse jackson was constantly played as a punchline on 90s late-night TV to the point that i didn't understand his history of activism and serious left-leaning political platform until i was much older. i have to think, to some degree, that was on purpose.

Banning social transition in schools is abuse. There’s no gentler word for it. It’s relegating young people to constant degradation and places students and faculty in inherently adversarial positions. It also precludes stealth transition, forcing young trans people out to their peers.

Even this is a massive understatement of the actual costs, since all of those things require advance planning, paperwork, and (in some cases) scheduling document retrievals (often only possible during work hours). The cost doesn't have to be high in dollars to be a prohibitive tax on voters.
