The historic Thomas Point Shoal Light just south of Annapolis is the most recognized lighthouse in Maryland. But did you know it has a library? Before automation, lighthouses throughout the U.S. housed small traveling libraries, with collections that rotated among them.

A large and enthusiastic crowd gathered yesterday to break ground on the new Park Heights Library - a community that hasn't had a branch since 2001. The State provided more than $5 million toward the project, including nearly $250,000 this year through MSLA's County Library Capital Grant Program.
