Thrilled to celebrate Emma LaRue Black’s 100th birthday! 🎉 Honored by Mayor John Kinnaird at the Thurmont Municipal Offices, Emma was born on August 6, 1925, in Virginia. She also has a brother, Edward, who is 101! Emma believes that staying close to family is key to a long life. Congrats Emma!

All aboard! 🚂 Had a great day celebrating with @marylanddot.bsky.social and Walkersville Southern Railroad on the safety improvements at the train crossing. Huge thanks to MDOT for making this happen! I am excited for the positive impact on Walkersville as we enhance safety for all visitors.

Last night’s event highlighted the importance of building trust and understanding between neighbors and law enforcement. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a success and show that public safety is about relationships and building connections!

What an incredible National Night Out! It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local law enforcement, first responders, and firefighters. Families from Frederick to Urbana, Brunswick, Middletown, and Thurmont came together for a great evening.

This week is S.H.E. Week, thanks to the Women in Business Committee of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce which celebrates + uplifts women in our community. I proudly support this initiative that provides valuable networking + coaching opportunities. Together, we build, lead, and move forward!

I had the pleasure of visiting the Transit Center and meeting some of the dedicated drivers who connect our Frederick County community. Here’s to continued growth and service for FY2026!

🚍 Congratulations to Transit Services of Frederick County! In FY2025, they proudly transported over 928,000 riders, a record since our services began in the 1990s! Looking ahead, they are committed to providing accessible and reliable service, expanding with more frequent routes and bus shelters.

Donated school supplies for Stuff the Bus just in time today before they were picked up by United Way of Frederick! Managed to grab a quick pic with President Ken Oldham too! Can't wait to hear how many FCPS students will be helped by these donations!

We heard from DC Mayor Muriel Bowser on regionalism, federal workforce impacts, and transportation. I participated in various sessions covering strategic planning, workforce challenges, and creating regional solutions, with a focus on optimizing transit network design.

ICYMI – I recently attended the annual Leadership Retreat for Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Board Members and Policy Committee leadership. It was a valuable opportunity to engage with Montgomery County Council members Andrew Friedson and Kate Stewart, as well as Mayor O’Connor.

I’m thrilled to announce that for the 2026 season, the Frederick Keys will be a High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles! Having attended many games, including one with my kids this week, I’ve seen the dedication and teamwork from many people in Frederick County and beyond who made this possible.

This community was established by formerly enslaved individuals after Emancipation. The Mountville School was completed in 1888, followed by the Sunnyside Church in 1889. This marker serves as an important reminder of the need to honor Black and African American history.

Today, my team joined @marylanddot.bsky.social to unveil a roadside historical marker honoring the legacy of the Mountville community and the significance of the Mountville School and Sunnyside Church in Frederick. Thanks to Pastor Dwyane Bell and Roxanne Weedon for their advocacy for this marker.

Great discussion with @mdbiz.bsky.social Deputy Secretary Ricardo Benn about how Frederick County can work with the state to promote lighthouse industries for strong economic development and how state programs like Global Gateway have helped programs in Frederick County thrive!

1,000! That’s the exciting milestone for the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce! It was a pleasure to celebrate last night and connect with the remarkable individuals behind the businesses that make Frederick County such a special place. Here's to continued growth and success!

Today, FCPS held a groundbreaking ceremony for Yellow Springs Elementary School and I was honored to attend. Thank you to our city, county, and state officials for their advocacy on behalf of our students. This new school is a testament to the ongoing commitment to Frederick County public education.

Thank you Evan E. for 6 years of dedicated leadership to Frederick County's Commissions on Disabilities. Your energy, compassion, and strong community focus have made a lasting impact through your many accomplishments! It was also special to reminisce about the time when you were my student!

I had the privilege of touring Mission of Mercy's mobile medical and dental clinics this morning. Executive Director Jennifer White explained how these clinics offer free services to uninsured and underinsured individuals across Frederick County; it was inspiring to see and hear its broad impact!

Frederick County and the City of Frederick reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities as established by the ADA and supported by Maryland law. We also acknowledge the numerous organizations across Frederick and Maryland that work tirelessly.

Today, with Mayor O'Connor and community members from the Office of Aging and Independence, we proudly recognize the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the world's first comprehensive civil rights law for individuals with disabilities.

I had a great meeting with USM Chancellor Dr. Jay Perman! We discussed how we can better use our regional resources to create more opportunities for students pursuing higher education, strengthening the collaboration between the University System of Maryland and Frederick County.

Exciting news as I helped celebrate the grand opening of the Frederick Young Horizons School! I recognize the vital role childcare plays in fostering strong communities. This school is essential in addressing our childcare needs, and I look forward to the positive impact on local families!

I donned my hard hat and toured the Overlook East apartments housing project. I explored both the new units and the historic space being transformed into apartments. I’m committed to advancing housing investment in Frederick County, and it’s great to see such progress in our community!

This afternoon, two of my team members, Ysela and Samantha, explored Frederick’s historic Old Spire & Clock Tower before restoration work begins on the steeple, slate, dormers, and spire. It was a special behind-the-scenes opportunity to learn about the broad restoration of this beloved landmark!

I had the pleasure of visiting Phoenix Mecano, a sales manufacturer. It was inspiring to meet employees Niki and Mark from the Scott Key Center and see them showcasing their skills. I also chatted with Mason and Nana, interns from FCPS. Thank you Phoenix Mecano for fostering an inclusive workplace!

She is also reconvening the Transition Team's committees to report on what we have accomplished. Sabrina brings a strong background in data-driven policymaking, and I look forward to her work to make our administration as transparent as possible to the community we serve. [2/2]

When I was elected, I launched a community-lead and government-informed transition process, which generated 64 recommendations to guide our work. I am excited to introduce Sabrina de la Vega, our Project and Policy Advisor, who is tracking our progress on these recommendations. [1/2]

A big thank you to Faith K. for her fantastic work on the Frederick County Sustainability Commission since 2019! Her community forums have united local Green Teams and strengthened ties in food security and waste reduction. We’re so grateful for her service, and I wish her the best going forward!
