But it changes a ton once you start talking about civil disobedience and again once you start talking about clandestine acts that might include something like vandalism.

You can’t just talk about “protesting” as a generic whole in a meaningful way.

Number one thing you can do is help them get a lawyer if they don’t have one already. They’ll be familiar with the process and risks involved. Consider a fundraiser if necessary.

I came across your article while researching organizing strategies that leverage the power that blue cities hold, even if it’s outside of the statehouse. I’m increasingly convinced that traditional routes of activity focused on the legislative hearing process are a dead end, at least for now.

Have you looked into developing similar strategies at the intrastate level?

We have similar dynamics in Texas with red counties/districts asymmetrically using political power to dominate blue cities. But the available tools will certainly be different.

The sloppy coverage and the vigilante component that is in the bill is a recipe for the harassment of gender nonconforming people.
