I don't have a github for the coral measuring project right now, but there is one for suwo.

I'm using computer vision algorithms (currently YOLO v8) to detect and segment coral fragments in images. The goal is to automate the analysis of coral area so that, no matter how big the coral restoration program gets in the future, managing the data won’t be a problem.

Analyzing coral fragment growth involves manually drawing the perimeter of each coral fragment. Using the bar length of the spider, we can calculate the area of coral in each picture. The problem is that currently there are too many spiders to analyze and fewer research assistants that have time πŸ˜‚

The other project I'm working on is an automated approach to analyzing images from a coral reef restoration project in the Gulf of Papagayo, Costa Rica. We take hundreds of pictures each month. These pictures contain structures called spiders with coral fragments.

Using that file, you can use another function from the package to download all the media files listed in the metadata. This approach allows users who need a large number of media files for a species to search and download them efficiently.

Sure! suwo is designed for users that are searching/downloading media files from online repositories like Wikiaves and Inaturalist. The package allows users to search for a species from a repo and then it returns a metadata file with information linked to the media files of the species.

Hi, I'm Jorge!

I’m a fourth-year biology undergrad at UCR. Currently, I’m:
- developing suwo, an R package for obtaining ecological and observational data
- creating a tool to automatically measure coral growth using computer vision for the Lab for Ecology and Conservation of Neotropical Reefs
