I think these are all highly logical assumptions. Also? Either grain matching or scrubbing. You can’t scan film grain to add it, the resolution would be too low, but traditional DNR would leave artifacts on a screen that huge. If AI didn’t work, it would be a massive clean-up job.

I don’t know if it was pure - it sounds like they had a sizable team from the start that just got bigger as AI failed at every step of the way.

I’d prefer them to just show the movie too, though it’s also true that at 16k+ resolution, even IMAX would look soft. Honestly, projects there would be better off doing stuff from scratch at the native resolution because “reimagining” material or trying to make it fit dissatisfies everyone.
