It is of fundamental importance that this review is led by experts and people with lived experience, not driven by ideology. We must hold this process to account and ensure that we arrive at the best possible healthcare outcomes for trans and gender diverse Australians.

I cautiously welcome the NHMRC review into gender-affirming healthcare for young people. This could represent an opportunity to achieve world-class healthcare for LGBTIQA+ Australians.

The deal with liberal democracy is that you get to be yourself so long as you aren’t hurting anyone else.

Trans + gender diverse people should have the freedom to affirm their gender. Healthcare involved in this process should be between the person and their medical specialists, not Barnaby Joyce.

Trans and intersex people exist whether the Coalition wants them to or not. Not everyone is born with XX or XY chromosomes - over 60k Australians were born with variations of sex characteristics.

This is imported culture war bullshit from a party so fundamentally out of touch with reality that they’re trying to distract you from their horrific election policies with their own ignorance.

The Government should not be mandating what it perceives to be the “correct” way to live your life.
