allegedly tagging walls, burning an effigy of an ICE officer, and countering security cameras using lasers. Protesters were met with a militarized police response which resulted in four arrests with misdemeanor charges. All four people were released in the early morning hours of May 3rd to a group of supporters.
Hearing news of arrests can be scary. But one of the most effective counter- revolutionary tactics that the state can pursue is generating fear and distrust among people working together for a liberated future. Let's resist it ferociously! Our experiences of fear are very real and put options in front of us of how we choose to respond. Fear can paralyze us and encourage us to slow others as well.
Fear can also motivate us to draw closer to each other and into bold collective action towards liberation.
In order to continue fighting, it is necessary to protect our safety while and by taking these actions. Non-cooperation with the state and policing forces is one of the strongest way to keep ourselves safe. This means growing our practices of security culture, remaining silent when approached by police, avoiding discussion of details of any arrest or action after it's happened, resisting narratives which isolate those taking action, and practicing discernment.
As political tensions rise let's remember that we address fear by taking care of each other.
We encourage people to use direct conversations with others in their community about differences in strategy and tactics, rather than posting about it online. Not only is this a better community practice, it also keeps our inner feelings and movement conflicts out of the hands of the state. Supporting people who have been arrested, cited, or are facing harassment by the state is a process made of concrete actions. These actions include showing up to the jail for noise demos, release support, court dates, writing letters while people serve time, contributing to commissary while in jail, and holding your friends tight when they get out. If you would like to contribute to our bail fund you can send us money on Venmo at @eugenebailfund or email us at eugenejailsupport@protonmail.com for cash donations.
Fighting state repression takes all of us. We look forward to all of the ways that you figure out how to support, love, and care for each other.
...until the prison world is a distant nightmare...

On Recent State Repression in Eugene
Over the past few days, we have seen a wave of state repression hit Eugene, with six arrests and four criminal citations related to alleged involvement in protests. These arrests were spread across two separate marches, taking place on May 1st and 2nd.
We are releasing this statement to provide legal updates and clarity around police collaboration.
On Thursday night, May 1st, a May Day labor march took place winding through downtown Eugene. Many attendees stayed to the sidewalks, while some of the protesters marched in the streets.
Two arrests and four citations were made while the march was dispersing, with those arrested being transported to Lane County Jail. One arrestee was charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly blocking the roadway and released after a few hours. The other arrestee was held on the same misdemeanor as well as an additional felony. She was charged with the misdemeanor not the felony and she was released the following evening about 24 hours later. All of the citations issued were for the same misdemeanor charge of Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
On May 2nd, the Eugene Police Department issued a press release with their narrative of the event.
In the statement, EPD asserts that organizers asked EPD for βhelp with the splinter groupβ (of people marching in the street). Police exist to dismantle liberatory movements and law enforcement narratives should never be viewed as a truthful telling of facts. At the same time, it has been confirmed that contact was made with police by someone acting in an official capacity at this event despite reported agreements. One of the organizing groups, the GTFF, confirmed in a statement that an individual from a group volunteering to provide deescalation and general safety did speak with the police. These volunteers were identified by yellow vests, and some were seen at the march attempting to keep the march confined to the sidewalk.
Harassing people marching in the street and inviting the involvement of law enforcement directly put protesters in harms way, resulting in 6 people being given criminal charges. This normalizes the presence of police at political demonstrations, builds fear around making bold choices in protests, and contributes to the idea that it is inherently hazardous to march in the streets. Marching in the streets has long been a foundational tactic across movements.
Eugene Jail Support does not work with or support those that collaborate with the state.
On the evening of May 2nd, a black bloc of about 30 people demonstrating against ICE deportations broadly targeting migrant and non-white communities marched through downtown. Marchers chanted while [Continued in next post]
