Graphic 1 of 4. DecodeME: The Results graphic. At the top in bold lettering, it says βMain Findingsβ. Beneath this it says βYour genes contribute to your chances of developing ME/CFS. Other key findings are on the following slides.
Graphic 2 of 4. DecodeME: The Results graphic. The slide says βPeople with an ME/CFS diagnosis have significant genetic differences in their DNA compared to the general populationβ. Beneath this is an image of a DNA helix and a magnifying glass.
Graphic 3 of 4. DecodeME: The Results graphic. The slide says βThese lie in many places across the genome, and do not impact just one geneβ. Beneath this is an image of a DNA helix and graphs.
Graphic 4 of 4. DecodeME: The Results graphic. The slide says βEight genetic signals have been identified. As DNA doesnβt change with ME/CFS onset, these findings reflect causes rather than effects of ME/CFSβ. Beneath this is a blue magnifying glass with a DNA helix.

Did u know? As outside spaces get smaller,it's tricky if you want a fruit tree. Dwarf apples are great for pollinators & for us too. This one is James Grieve. It's a self pollinator & will only get to 8 feet tall. It has masses of white flowers for bees/hoverflies & juicy sweet fruit for us. πΏπ±π¬π§π±ππͺ²π

A reminder that the 70+ year-old research discipline of AI is much bigger than genAI, much bigger than just deep learning, much bigger than Big Tech. AI includes symbolic reasoning, multi-agent systems and statistical machine learning and is used for astrophysics, renewable energy and climate models

I expect that consumer-facing AI programs will continue to improve and they may become much more useful tools for everyday life in the future.
But I think it was a disastrous mistake that todayβs models were taught to be convincing before they were taught to be right.

The picture shows a smartphone and the imprint of a newspaper. The smartphone displays a screen from the SecureMessaging feature showing a key digest. The newspaper imprint shows the same digest. The digest consists of a number of randomly-looking letters and digits.
One of my favourite CoverDrop details: out-of-band verification of the trusted organization key which signs the entire key hierarchy. Its digest is included in the imprint of every printed Guardian newspaper, removing the need to trust CAs πποΈ more details: www.coverdrop.org

3. I'm constantly struck by the extent to which people take their freedoms for granted - the freedom of speech, the freedom to vote, workers' rights, weekends, holidays, pensions ... - as if they simply fell out of the sky.
They were achieved at great cost by our political ancestors.

1. Researching this weekβs column, I felt that I understood at last just why, on so many issues β benefits, Gaza, environmental and planning laws, anti-protest laws, bank deregulation, fiscal rules etc - Labour is out-Torying the Tories. We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.
The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
