I'm camped out on the far side of the Ross Ice Shelf at present, with the Swais2c research team. I shot this on my phone the other evening when I was wandering off to bed, the sun behind me created this icebow over the tents.

In the summer in Antarctica we get to experience 24 hour sunlight. What most people don't know is that all year round, we also get to see 24 hour moonlight on a monthly cycle. It spirals up and down above the horizon in sync with its monthly orbit of the Earth.

Cape Crozier #Antarctica, where I was filming the team studying emperor penguins and weddell seals. The tents are on the annual sea ice, in a crack in the Ross Ice shelf. At the bottom of the picture adelie penguins can be seen marching out to the ocean to feed.

Lake Vanda and the Wright Valley. Dry Valleys, Antarctica. The Dry Valleys are often called the place on Earth that is most like Mars. They remain mostly snow-free due to the local microclimate.

Scott Base Antarctica with Mount Erebus in the background, and sea ice and seals in the foreground. The ice is buckling and being crushed against the shore due to the movement of the nearby ice shelf.

A drone shot from last night while doing a seal count and checking the status of the sea ice pressure ridges in front of Scott Base as things get warmer. We should have our first day of the summer with temperatures above freezing any day now.
