This is Judith Collins' legacy - stripping away all social science, humanities, arts, and MΔori-centered research funding in favor of a narrowly defined science. The old guard and their desperate need for (white) western ideologies to be embedded at all levels must be delighted.
28.01.2026 22:03 β π 32 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0Depressingly, this new one pool of research funding for all of NZ appears to be primarily focussed on R&D for new tech to make money for businesses, rather than the creation of new knowledge and interesting ideas. Does not augur well for NZ :/

It was a good idea that floated around internet forums for years, and then F1 actually did it, and it kinda worked. I'm really surprised they didn't continue with it. Must be something to do with the teams and sponsors wanting more limelight.

We found a big disconnect: strategies promote active travel, but bureaucracy and fragmented funding slow delivery.
The good news? Trusted relationships and informal collaboration help practitioners navigate these systems.
Why is it so hard for governments to deliver walking and cycling infrastructure, despite ambitious plans for mode shift?
Our new open access paper explores this question through a case study of neighbourhood redevelopment in Aotearoa New Zealand. π§΅

A tragedy we see too often. Road works and other construction works creating unsafe situations for pedestrians and cyclists - creating barriers and forcing them into risky situations. We need far more training and regulation and punishment for those who put people at risk.
