If you feel "hamstrung" by human rights laws and by health and safety laws - you are the person those laws were designed to protect us against. You need to be obstructed by those laws.

Also, she's lying.

This is Judith Collins' legacy - stripping away all social science, humanities, arts, and Māori-centered research funding in favor of a narrowly defined science. The old guard and their desperate need for (white) western ideologies to be embedded at all levels must be delighted.

Depressingly, this new one pool of research funding for all of NZ appears to be primarily focussed on R&D for new tech to make money for businesses, rather than the creation of new knowledge and interesting ideas. Does not augur well for NZ :/

It was a good idea that floated around internet forums for years, and then F1 actually did it, and it kinda worked. I'm really surprised they didn't continue with it. Must be something to do with the teams and sponsors wanting more limelight.

Imo you shouldn’t get a gong for philanthropy if the millions you gave away was earned on the back of low wages to contracted workers and/or directly employed staff. If you weren’t a Living Wage Employer? You were and are part of the problem not the the solution. #nzpol #HonoursList #WindowDressing

Public support for investing in urban cycleways outweighs opposition – National Survey | PHCC While more New Zealanders support increasing investment in urban cycleways than oppose it, there remains a substantial proportion of people who are unsure or unengaged on this issue.

Always nice to get a scientific poll to remind us that TalkBack radio and the Facebook comment section are not actually representative of public opinion

Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

Mini-Hoon: Shamubeel Eaqub on CGT-lite Simplicity Chief Economist Shamubeel Eaqub sees Labour's CGT-lite as a small step in the right direction. A more ambitious tax on wealth isn't politically possible now, but may be in future, he says

Wild to have a Government simultaneously claiming they *can't* pay essential public servants more because they just don't have the money, but also being hyped to drop $18b on a road.

They are fundamentally unserious people.

Thanks for the reply. But it looks very much like a selection of non 'leafy suburbs'. It would be interesting to see the production of rubbish per person for each suburb, maybe we could see where the most attention needs to be.

What was the process for selecting the trial areas? Will they be representative of the level of rubbish produced in higher socio-economic areas?

Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

We found a big disconnect: strategies promote active travel, but bureaucracy and fragmented funding slow delivery.

The good news? Trusted relationships and informal collaboration help practitioners navigate these systems.

Why is it so hard for governments to deliver walking and cycling infrastructure, despite ambitious plans for mode shift?

Our new open access paper explores this question through a case study of neighbourhood redevelopment in Aotearoa New Zealand. 🧡

Teen cyclist died β€˜because roadworks put vehicles first’ She had pedalled 8000km across the US, only to die on a routine ride to work.

A tragedy we see too often. Road works and other construction works creating unsafe situations for pedestrians and cyclists - creating barriers and forcing them into risky situations. We need far more training and regulation and punishment for those who put people at risk.

When, as a result of my driving abilities (FA), I drive my car into solid objects then my car suffers damage (FO). This makes me angry about the solid objects. Solid objects I drive my car into should be replaced by soft squishy objects, like cyclists, that will not damage my car when I hit them.
