I don't want to say this was completely unexpected, because this is something changes in ice coverage can affect, but increasing seismic hazards is not the first impact of climate change that comes to mind. 🧪

Astrobiologists/geobiologists: what basic science have we done that has led to practical inventions / applications?

The obvious answer is Thermus aquaticus -> Taq -> PCR... but there must be other examples?
