We talk about dads and their favourite wars, but you can tell us much about someone's personality and ideological worldview from "favourite version of Robin Hood".

(Note: This analytical framework doesn't work with furries due to Omitted Variable Bias)

We're going to get people complaining that The Cranberries "Zombie" is not a Halloween song, but it's no worse at that than it is at being an intelligent commentary on the troubles.

All I'm saying is that if Phileas Fogg had just hidden in his house for 80s days and then turned up at the Reform Club pretending he'd just circumvented the world, the ending of the book would have been exactly the same.

I mostly like it because it puts polisimmers way higher than we deserve.

But they live underwater.

Christ, Busted, blase is one thing but exactly what would be needed for you to see it as a major change?

When it gets into narrative structure (the everybody dies parts of the Great Pendragon campaign) is where I think it's not completely awful, but more of a mixed blessing.

In particular, the trains never require you to make narrative choices outside of your character.

Why I give it a pass compared to many games I dislike, is because the BRP underpinnings aren't just flavour. It's genre emulation and the personality mechanics are focused on who your character is rather than narrative structure.

It is perhaps the guilty secret of the likes of Class War that the Met have converted far more people to a fiery anti police stance than any amount of anarchist propaganda could ever manage.

The anti CJA/Reclaim the Streets demos saw a similar development. Despite the claims of the press, originally the "fluffies" (strongly non violent, just wanted to dance) were the dominant faction. Funnily enough, after they got battered by the met a few times some of them felt less fluffy.

I suspect the Home Secretary is very close to learning the old truism that if you make it too difficult to get legal permits for demonstrations, you end up shifting a significant bunch of people into the "we won't ask then" camp.

Also, "looking for casual space fun" sounds like you're looking for intergalactic no strings attached shagging.

It was in Byker Grove as well. It's interesting that despite the prominence of Extinction Rebellion they don't seem to have entered popular culture in the way the road protesters did.

The scriptwriters having Spider join the police was the worst thing done to a character since the preppie makeover of Allison in Breakfast Club.

And at the fluffy non satirical Coronation Street having a very sympathetically portrayed Swampy expy in the form of "Spider Nugent".

Honestly though, there is a really interesting way in which "radical lefties" and "ecowarriors" were a prominent enough type in the 90s to get satire like Cyderdelic and Alan Parker Urban Warrior.

Ok, people aren't taking Wood seriously (including some of the Swiftie commentary) but I don't think that's negative in the same way. I don't take "My Ding-A-Ling" seriously either. Not sure she meant it to be taken as a not funny song in the first place.

05.10.2025 16:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The actual negativity I'm seeing is largely around the diss track about Charlie xcx along with some ideological criticism round how Cancelled feeds into right wing cancel culture narratives. Neither of those strike me as no longer taking pop music seriously; quite the opposite.

Does it depend on what kind of car it is? Like, swearing at your Porsche is class warfare but if you swear at a Skoda that's racism?

Often so, although if the leggings you were wearing had a drawstring you could just tie it into those as well.

Asked a historical reenactor friend and his view is that they were generally sewn at the bottom and tied on at the top. (At least in the period you're looking at; they were completely sewn earlier on and evolved).
