The Kid, by contrast, knew exactly the danger of being in her sights. What she didn’t know was what to do, because she forgot it all the second the Gun’s piercing silver irises hit her. They shook her down to her script and rewrote her role. She took the nearest chair in a hurry, but the music did not stop. At zero cliques to impact, the Gun clicked with the Kid on contact. She said, “Well, don’t you stand out, even when seated?” A compliment for the Kid and an insult for an assassin. The Kid swallowed both her spit and the instinct to pivot and deny. Predators do so like prey, and prey she could play. She said,
