it's not like I don't respect the cup. I think of MLS as having two different championships each year. just think the complaints lodged against the shield can be so silly

complaints about the supporters' shield's unbalanced schedule would make a lot more sense if they didn't come from people who prefer MLS cup. i promise the 34 game league table tells you more than a single elimination bracket

honestly I'm just happy to be looking at this stuff and finding that the union are no longer a lock to finish like top 5 in offsides violations. Baribo's 11 might be noise but Curtin knew how to rack em up

felt like baribo had a bit of an offsides problem this year. he did account for about a quarter of union offsides violations (11/47) (uhre had 9 and damiani 4) but 11 is only 30th most in the league and certainly you'd expect his style to lend itself to such violations

the big difference is basically that every year the union sign some unkown guy out of some third tier league in europe who turns into a star and that goes a long way towards competing

the Philadelphia Union are so similar to the Cleveland Guardians (top two soccer academy in the country, always a great defense, at times anemic offense, second-lowest league payroll, known to win ugly) and that makes their 2nd trophy in 5 years a great salve for Guardos stuff
