Thankful for the opportunity to practice science communication through writing, photography, and illustrations 💕
After 3 years of trying to get into a program, I can finally say that I'll be starting a PhD at @forestry.ubc.ca this September! It'll be hard to leave the Arctic behind (although I'll always stay connected in some way), but I'm so excited to be working within my home province of BC.

#Svalbard from the air.
Here for the next few weeks as an #Ambassador for @polarbearsinternational, teaching guests about polar bears, sea ice loss, and what we can do about it.
It’s my favourite time of year - the wildflowers are starting to bloom in the South #Okanagan. I saw tons of western springbeauty (Claytonia lanceolata) and western buttercups (Ranunculus occidentalis) on a recent hike.

Distressing news from the US today: 880 NOAA staff fired. From a polar bear perspective, NOAA data is used extensively in analyses. Impacts of losing this expertise is hard to fathom. Short-sighted & a mistake.

This was 1,290,000 km² below the 1981-2010 average. January ice extent is decreasing at about 2.83% per decade. Data: NSIDC (nsidc.org/data/seaice_...).
