Whenever you cycle in the Netherlands, you are riding on the shoulders of giants. Tens of thousands of regular citizens who, five decades ago, took to the streets to fight back against the rampant rise of the car in their community. Without this defiant act, their country would look like any other.🧡

I'd hate to see what Cuomo's City would be like.

I mean, it's not built, so the stop spacing can be debated.

Could be similar to Corona; between 82 St and Mets-Willets Point, there is no duplicative bus. (On the other hand, that's rather uncommon in NYC)

Either way, the segment through the Lincoln is what I'm most concerned about. Fine with me πŸ˜‚

I only caught a glimpse of this video in stations yesterday, but @mta.info’s Halloween short video is amazing.

The Cross Bearing, Count Dracula Sq bound G train strip map has themed station names and The Brooklyn Tower
Makes a not so conspicuous appearance. I love it.

(Currently I walk 45+ minutes to Aldi to save on transit fares and grocery prices. I do have three supermarkets 12 minutes or less away by foot, and two others similarly away by bike, that more normal people would choose lol)

I've done both. If cycling were safer and easier, I'd definitely prefer the bike.

However as a New Yorker I'll add that there are many older New Yorkers who shop by bus.

Whether the next generation of elderly will switch to bikes if it were safer and easier, who knows. But right now, they do bus.

I like this because if you wanted one shot to decongest the Lincoln Tunnel busway and/or PABT, replacing the 126 bus would be the way to go. That route pushes 30+ buses per hour through the tunnel at peak.

You can’t reboot the planet if you crash it What Gates is putting forward aren’t legitimate arguments that can be made in good faith. They are shopworn fossil fuel industry talking points.

β€œHere’s the thing, Bill Gates: There’s no β€˜patch’ for the climate crisis. And there is no way to reboot the planet if you crash it. The only safe and reliable way out when you find yourself in a climate hole is to stop diggingβ€”and burningβ€”fossil fuels.” β€” @michaelemann.bsky.social

"For the price of a subway ride, [the IBX] could transform commutes for the roughly 750,000 people who live within a 15-minute walk from the proposed route, and create new travel options for millions more. Over 160,000 daily riders are expected to use it."

The Livable Streets Revolution Has Been Televisedβ€”By This Guy For more than two decades, Clarence Eckerson Jr.'s videos have shown that walkable, bike-friendly streets are possible. Now, he's thinking about hanging up his camera.

I thought yesterday morning's congestion on Archer Ave in Jamaica was inconvenient enough (it was only a couple minutes, ultimately) and I thought I could avoid it entirely

Nope, this is like 3Γ— worse

(Also affects three express bus services using Linden Blvd to get to the Van Wyck)

#VisionZeroCities2025 has finally given me the chance to do everyone's favorite work commute: between SE Queens and Manhattan during rush hours.

Biggest surprise so far is serious AM congestion on the brand new Q51 approaching the Van Wyck.

Thanks, Robert Moses. >.>

Why Do Highways Run Through Black Neighborhoods? The documentary β€œInterstate” exposes how highway routes are by design.

β€œFrom the 1950s to the 1970s, federal contractors building the system deliberately mapped routes that rammed through and dismantled Black neighborhoods β€” payback, some say, for gains made during the Civil Rights Movement.”

October Rides Month – Part 5: Traversing ’s-Hertogenbosch inΒ Autumn Today I share the fifth and final episode of this October Rides Month, in which I traverse the entire city of ’s-Hertogenbosch β€” from the centre to its northernmost edge β€” without encountering a single traffic light! No wonder it takes only 18 minutes to cover exactly six kilometres at an average speed of 20 km/h on my ordinary upright Dutch bicycle, which is not electric.

October Rides Month concludes with a ride across ’s-Hertogenbosch β€” from the city centre to its northern edge without a single traffic light. A new mini-roundabout sparked local debate but, in my view, it’s an improvement.

Amtrak's Dithering Means Penn Access Won't Be Done Until 2030, MTA Says - Streetsblog New York City Boom: The MTA's ambitious Penn Access project is delayed until 2030 at the earliest ... and Amtrak is to blame, says the MTA.

ETA is disappointed and frustrated to hear that Metro-North Penn Station Access has been delayed by 3 yearsβ€”a major delay for what should be a fairly straightforward project.

This is a significant setback for regional transportation, especially prior to the World Cup in NJ.
